Immortan Joe costume from Mad Max, Fury Road

Looking to spend maybe under 20 on it?

But I might try that too, BigBoss. See if works out. I have a couple of big PVC pipes lying around too.

I actually have a 3 foot by 2 foot (approximately) sheet of PETG sitting around the house, I ended up buying a lot more than I needed for my Joe armor. I'm heading to the post office tomorrow morning anyways to ship out some packages, if you'd like I can roll that sheet up into a tube and ship it to you, 10 bucks plus shipping. The sheet is definitely worth a lot more, but I'd rather it go to someone who's gonna use it, than it just sit in my closet. PM me if you're interested.

I have 1 clear mannequin leg I can ship someone for the cost of shipping. Would make a nice form to shape vambraces around (forearms)! First to ask gets it.

At one time they were really, really expensive on eBay!

I got 6 12"x12" sheets of clear PETG from mcmaster.com for under $20, shipped...and assuming that I don't mess anything up, 6 sheets should be enough for two shoulders, two biceps, and two forearms!

I just got my wig in and I'm quite happy with how it looks. I also got a bit extra of the hair and I'm going to make the widows peak a bit more pronounced.

I have a four day weekend this weekend so I'm gonna try and knock out everyone's armor this weekend and have it all out by 18th the latest

In case anyone here is interested...just finished forming the chest armor out of .40 PETG. For my first time working with this, it went quite well. I looked back in this thread, and noticed that some people had commented that they had used a yellow ochre acrylic paint to discolor the inside the armor. I tried this and it worked well, though it takes some practice to not get too little / too much coloration. I decided to wash this out and try something else...I found that the same color oil pastel (available online or any art supply store) works really well. It resembles and colors like a crayon, and can be smeared around a bit to get the right amount of color. The blending you can do with just your finger is pretty amazing...a little goes a long way. Though it would take a little extra work to remove it, I feel this gives it a pretty good look...nice and lived in !! I had the inside colored with the oil pastel in just a few minutes time. Just figured I would throw this out to anyone interested...

Clear lacquer works great on Worbla over acrylic paint as a sealer to keep the color from rubbing off of the inside of the armor. I wonder if it would work on the PETG over the oil pastel as well . I would think you would need something or it will just rub off on the shirt you wear underneath (or your skin).

Yeah...I'm thinking you would have to seal it somehow....the look is good, but I wonder if the oil in the pastel will keep any sealant from really sealing over it....will do some more testing...

Man, for the boots/shins I'm trying to go "close enough on a budget", since it's not a part of the costume that gets a lot of visibility...but y'all are outclassing me like crazy! Those look awesome. I assume the badges are all 3D printed?

Great! The only thing I see (a quibble) is that the lowest "loops" in the back should be smaller than the upper ones. Smaller in both senses, the pipes should be smaller in diameter and then they should be bent into a smaller loop. This is a pain and you may just want to go with what you have.

Hey, all! Long time lurker, first time poster... this thread has been my primary source of information for my build since day one, so thanks everyone for all the hard work and info gathering I've benefitted from along the way here. There are some true artists in this thread.

That being said, ImmortanJeff's incredible greaves bring me to a point I've been struggling with... where is everyone getting their leather? I hit up my local Joanne's last night and white I have gotten much from there, large pieces of leather are not on the list... it's all just furniture upholstery and pleather. Is everyone just getting the scraps I see on Amazon, or what?

I got mine from tandy leather. A local shop.

+1 for tandy, they're pretty handy if you happen to have one around. Every kind of leather you could imagine on racks and hanging, cool stuff.

Really would help to be able to touch the leather and see the actual color.

The chain came straight off Amazon actually! Standard motorcycle chain. 3D printing is fine for the badges, but when it comes to the chains, you have to be all business :)

Tandy Leather is the place! You want to get a sheet of belly leather, which is flexible but retains shape and form. You MUST cut it with the direction of the grain, or else it will not bend in the correct direction and you will be screwed.

The color is Fiebing's Leather Dye, #121 Medium Brown, also at Tandy!

They are indeed. Those files were a life-saver. We were trying to make them all out of Sculpy, which was working ok, but very time-consuming.

Patattack, I'd argue that the graves are actually very important to the presentation. Too many people have skimped on this part of the costume and I think it really undermines the presentation.
