Immortan Joe costume from Mad Max, Fury Road

Here's a weird question that @aestheticus might hate me for now. :p

Does his arm armor have muscle contours too? From the contour of the lighting on Joe's left arm here (right in the picture) it looks like there might be more complexity to the shape of it than I originally guessed.

Edit: I also have to say, the fact that the back of his armor looks like it also has abs...

... is cracking me right up.

God awful picture of me - but my widows peak arda "Tauriel" wig in Titanium Blonde. I haven't cut the lace off yet so it makes my forehead look all wrinkly. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1440120468.609657.jpg

That's enough to sell me on gettin' that wig for myself. Color looks pretty spot on, I imagine you just have to cut it for length. Thanks for sharing it!

Yes it does Ein, and the forearms also have some shading similar to the torso armor. They are much more organically shaped than I originally assumed when I started the costume. Those mannequin legs work great. I really need to finish the biceps and shoulder armor.

That image is great too, for a closeup of his forearm badges. The one is more of a shield shape, not a diamond as I originally thought. No clue on the final patch under the star. It looks like the red text may be three numbers? 666? Lol!

Nice wig work! Arda makes some top quality wigs. I will say sometimes they run a little on the smaller side... I still need to continue ventilating hair into the lace of my wig to mimic the hairline. I forgot how tedious the process is. I may need to bribe a friend to finish it, hah!

Hence the mannequin leg/calf…[emoji6]

Lol yup. I noticed he has a weird contour on his bracers, but I did these before I even considered 3D printing out molds. Instead I used nearly every alcoholic bottle and glass in the house trying to find the right shape. Eventually I just said 'Meh... close enough' and used a pilser glass. Also, wtf back abs?! I can reuse my molds I used for the front, but that's such a weird choice.

Speaking of drinking.

It's not done yet, and I know for the sake of accuracy some of them should be upside down, but I kinda like having them showing like this.

Nice! I left a few of mine up too, though I sanded the bulk of them to heck and back.

A little update on some patches, etc...

Any advice on where to track some of these patches down? I genuinely don't even know what to be searching for here.

Search under sheriff, or law enforcement badges... The police badge I found on ebay, it is far from close. I ended up painting it with fabric paint (it was originally black) to better match the movie shade/hide the flags on the patch. The center of all of the star patches I've made are cut from various other patches and bits of fabric as I've come across nothing close to Joe's...

For the skull patch I ordered from and ebay seller that does custom patches. I chose a font, sizing, color, etc. and he made the patch. I then carefully cut out a skull and crossbones I had on another patch I purchased. Glued it in the center and done!

*edit*
This is the seller I got the patch from http://www.ebay.com/itm/301197435351?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Font choice Elephant, not exactly sure on the sizing, but I could email him to find out or imply attach the template
I used as an attachment when ordering...

Nice work and thanks for the link!

Note: "Nambia" not "Namibia?"

Looks like Joe's first "i" might just be weathered away. There is a space for it, I think:

Finished some 3D models tonight. I did the cap design on the top center piece of the leg armor. I didn't see that one done yet. I was going to do the 2nd from the bottom, but I can't tell if it's "110C" or "1100". I'd appreciate anyone's input from here.

I also redid the mask vents that came with the original mask STL (The mask itself though... filipturz on Thingiverse did some amazing work.). The vents that came with the mask weren't accurate and were missing a small tube that shoots out going down. I printed without support and they only need a little bit of cleanup. The tube isn't completely flush due to limitations on 3d printing, and I didn't want to have to bother with sanding. It's a snug enough fit it won't slip out and when painted will look fine. Mine aren't weathered because I figure I could get a better look just weathering them myself.

Leg badge - "Cap"
Mask vents (its only one vent, in your slicing software just mirror it)

Thanks for doing that. It's 1100, the black is the string tying it to the leather.

How big is the circle patch do you guys think?

star patch.jpg

I believe the 3 star patches (left bicep, tricep and vambrace) to be all the same patch, or slight variations. I see two horizontal ribbons in a victorian art style, one across the top, and one across the bottom third of the circle. Been searching for this thing for hours and repeatedly feel like I'm getting close, but always so far away. I get the red/blue/yellow color combinations in Soyuz patches, russian cccp patches, a bunch of texas county patches (which is most likely I think assuming the star is part of the same patch) tactical fighter squadron patches, the list goes on... girlfriend found many similarities with the ribbons in Australian and british horse regiment insignia, but still no luck. color pattern doesn't match any national flags.

To me what I can discern of the yellow figure could be a cowboy on a horse or bull, an eagle possibly, either in the clouds or on some mountains (you get a sense of how ridiculous this search has become...)

I've interpreted the text as variously, "R.J.B." "P A R I S" "R 2 2" "R A Z" It looks either handwritten or possibly damaged like the Namibia skull patch.

Seriously considering doing custom art and ordering embroidered patches to match if we can't tease any better resolution shots from the blu ray.. finding this patch will take either a great resolution image, somebody with extensive knowledge of insignias, or a huge stroke of luck!

I have actually been trying to get contact information for Jenny Beavan, who was, as I understand it, the main costume designer for Immortan Joe's whole outfit on the movie. She appears on the "Tools of the Wasteland" featurette, as well, to describe some aspects of his costume. I assumed it was a company, but her name's the only thing that keeps coming up for it.

If anyone's got an IMDBPro subscription, they may have contact info for her on there, but I can't see it. I kinda wanted to take a stab at sending her a polite e-mail to see if she'd answer a few detail-related questions like the patches.

Edit: Logan, the yellow icon in the middle is almost certainly the state of texas with red star in front of it on the right side, as far as I can tell.

I was honestly checking Australian patches as best I could, because most of the car emblems seem to be sourced from Australia-specific models of vehicles (the 929 badge, for example, is from the australian version of that Mazda car).
