Iconic DC Comics Character - Gay

Pathetic exploitation of the worst kind. The most sad thing about this is all the morons on Facebook who are hailing this as visionary and as if DC is taking some bold step forward. P. T. Barnum would be proud...

LOL your avatar is cute Art!

Well, I think it wasn't a wise choice to change well known character's sexual orientation for just the attention. It is constructed, forced and doesn't naturally flow with it. I bet they are trying to rub his/her preference every 2nd panel. The only known pairing that works was Apollo/Midnighter…

Marvel seems to be handling everything better than DC right now. Movies , comics, issues. I'm disappointed in the way DC is making a big deal about this.

I'm not even buying DC titles right now and was not welcoming of the New 52 reboot at all.

The only thing DC has coming I'm excited about is the animated release of The Dark Knight Returns, which will for some reason, be released in two parts over time.

Why make a old character gay ...have they never heard of Rule 34
without even looking for it, im pretty sure every comic book character has been rule 34'd in any possible way. im guessing DC could pick out of a variety of graphic material.

also, i had to google rule 34

I talked to a guy I know who's a long-time DC fan, and he's very upset with this whole fiasco. Not because of what they're doing, but the fact that they're doing it just as a marketing stunt to make headlines, and not as any kind of meaningful statement or benefit to the stories. Honestly, as for the characters, I don't really care one way or another. I just think this is a stupid thing to do for these reasons.

Marvel's probably laughing their ass off at this whole thing.

Yep. On all counts. I suppose it's possible that this will be for marketing AND story, but I can't help but think that the marketing angle of it, and the high publicity aspect, will just trample any kind of artistic credibility within the story. People won't be able to step back and say "Well, actually, that makes sense, yeah. And it works dramatically." Instead, they'll just see "LOOK!!! WE MADE AN ESTABLISHED CHARACTER GAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! LOOKLOOKLOOKZOMGLOOK!!!!!"

Marketing stunts like this is just another reason why I dont bother reading comics anymore

I can careless about Alan Scott being gay. To make a whole fiasco about it to try to gain publicity and possible sales boast is pathetic.

Alan Scott of Earth 2's JL.

Which bears out my prediction that it is indeed a major character to everyone except the readers, the general public and all the other sentient life in the universe.

/pause for jokes about his purple cape...

Heh, I would have ruled out Alan Scott on account of his two kids (though Obsidian at least no longer exists in the New 52). I know that happens in real life, but still was counting that against it possibly being him.

It's a big deal in that he's one of the oldest DC characters, and there's no doubt a good chuck of JSA fans who will care. Read an interview with the writer of Earth 2 who suggests it was the media making a huge deal over an off-hand comment made by Didio and that the original plan was just to let it happen without hype.

Glad to see I seem to have been mistaken about it being nothing but a pandering hype grab.

They stated in interviews they choose him because his son (who is gay) has now been written out of the comics and it made sense for Alan Scott to be gay...

DC's 52 is making me face palm with every character reveal, they rather remove characters I like or do something stupid with them. The JSA is my all time favorite comic book team and so far they have done something idiot with every character but the overall mistake was making them young again and sticking them in a separate universe.

I have no issues with Alan Scott being gay its just the reasoning behind it. You want to represent all types of people DC then focus on the amazing lesbian character Renee and put Batgirl back in her chair! Both are superior to what they have shoehorned into the 52.

some peoples comment are just stupid...

this for example
Your disgusting endorsement of the gay, lesbian life style will cause you to at least one customer in me, I will no longer see any movies or allow my children to purchase any product of DC comics

Comic book nerds finally have one of their own to idolize.

They will regret this. Any follow up movies to the 1st will be shunned by the public. Parents will not take their kids to "celebrate" this new age hero. Who is making these decisions?

I sometimes marvel at peoples stupidity. I won't feel sorry when the expirement backfires.

By that logic, we need to perhaps give more consideration to the pedophiles and socio-paths among us ... after all, they are simply dealing with their human aspects.

Yes, go Green Lantern and when you're done, I need some decorating and fashion advice. But, please don't try and make me join the gay alliance or tell me I need to find my bi side because we would then have a real problem. Your freedom to be you includes my freedom to be free from you

Bet none of the other Super Friends will want to sit next to him anymore. Why not just rename him the "Pink Flame". This is yet another step in promoting an overly liberal society with no morals.

people like this should just be banned from ever being allowed to speak openly. it doesnt matter if youre pro or contra gay, but noone has the right to tell other people what to do.

and comparing homosexuals to pedophiles and sociopaths takes the cake.

another thing i have to say, it seems this attitude is mainly US based. i have yet to meet one person around here who is against gays.

It was actually leaked a few days ago which character was gay.

Scarebs comic buddy got it right unless he heard the leak before any1 else haha

Note the one comment above which is about the movies -- wrong Green Lantern, folks, but it highlights the "gotcha" marketing aspect in all this.

"OMG DID YOU HEAR?!! GREEN LANTERN IS GAY!!!! THIS WILL RUIN ALL THE MOVIES!!!"

"Wait, which Green Lantern? The one from the 1930s who's essentially a magical character? The one from the 1960s who's a space cop? The jocky astronaut who temporarily replaced him? The black guy who replaced THEM? Or the comic book artist who in turn replaced all of them? OR one of the aliens who are members of the Green Lantern Corps?"

"What are you talking about. THE. GREEN. LANTERN. He's gay."

"Never mind."
