Hi Guys,

Im new here and new to cosplay and im making a Tusken Raider Cosplay right now.

For the fabric on the helmet i used dark tan fabric made by my great grandfather.

The Problem is, the fabric was originaly meant for real clothing and when e.g. crumpling up the fabric over some hours it just gets smooth again. I dont know how it was treated, but i need it to look old and stuff, so how can i make the special treated fabric look old, any ideas?

First of all, Welcome.

Have you washed the fabric?
If not then do that first.

For adding shape maybe spraying with starch or use a mat clear setting media gel.

I’m not sure of what type of fabric you’re using or how it was treated. If it is waxed or oiled canvas then you may find it difficult to weather

Most people, use ‘duck cloth’ or canvas that is dyed but un treated.

You can stain the edges with tea or coffee, or apply weathering with an air brush.

Also look up fullers earth, it’s a baked clay powder. It’s cheap and great for wreathing fabric.

Hope that helps

You can try lightly sanding the surface you want to weather. It will look worn and May remove a treatment or coating to allow for paint/stain/etc.
I would try washing as recommended above, first. Maybe a few times. Please post what you try and if it works so others can benefit from your work!
