How to weather special treated Fabric

Hi Guys,
Im new here and im making a Tusken Raider Cosplay right now.
For the fabric on the helmet i used dark tan fabric made by my great grandfather.
The Problem is, the fabric was originaly meant for real clothing and when e.g. crumpling up the fabric over some hours it just gets smooth again. I dont know how it was treated, but i need it to look old and stuff, so how can i make the special treated fabric look old, any ideas?
