Ok the paint job is done, pretty much...now to figure out the recoil mechanism

Beautiful workmanship once again Seems that the cannon wasn't used often seeing the amount of snow on it...tends to obscure the greeblies a little too much (my taste, of course)

OK most of the actual build is done...all the panels cut out, stuck on and the greeblies/pipes attached and primed. Have only just dry fitted the cannon and petals. Will probably do the paint job first and then tackle the electronics

I got them on ebay...they are sold as ambient garden lights and u probably need 2 to do it the way I did it at that scale; 60 cm Globe Orb Floor Lamp Shade, Hollow PE Plastic Ball Sphere Shell, 600 mm Dia.

I just bought it at a lighting shop 600mm Dia but I am looking for a 450mm dia one as that should be 1/48 scale.

Seeing this thread reminds me that two years ago, for a Halloween trunk or treat, I did the Battle of Hoth theme.
Used this thread to quickly make the ion cannon. Useling a giant Christmas ornament, painted it white, found enough stuff in my parts bin to closely replicate the gun, and just drew on the lines with a pencil.
Not bad for a few hours work.
I keep it on a shelf now.
Maybe one day I'll try and make a more accurate version.
