Hi! I have boobs and I make...

Also my fav is when I get other women (and sometimes men) talking about how sexist I am because I like to take unisex or male designs and fit them for the female body. I got that a lot on my Snape jacket. How it would have been better to just make the male version for myself and how people like me stereotype that women should be different and be forced into "sexy" clothes like my Snape jacket because we are women. I always though that was hilarious. I'm glad that you might look good in a boxy mans jacket but I have boobs and hips and I do not look good in a non form fitting garment.

Rant over lol!!!!

UGH this is the worst. My number one pet peeve in cosplaying is **** shaming. We recently had a long discussion about this on the Cosplay.com boards. There is a lot of ****-shaming, and primarily from other women, in cosplay of all kinds. Pisses me off.

But again, you gotta look to your fellow costumers for support sometimes. I know there's some nasty "costumers" out there, but for the most part, atleast I like to believe, that everyone is welcoming a nice. I know that's not always the case .
#guilty #teamNASTY

I've seen some really nasty comments even from people I know regarding strangers in someone else's feed on facebook. Last time I saw it, I was so ticked off by it I ended up posting 'Unless you are a fitness model, I wouldn't be commenting on the fitness of the ladies in this photograph, take a good hard look in the mirror first.'

I put myself out there at cons in costumes I make. I also work very hard at being fit. Unfortunately there are some real jerks out there that need to make themselves feel better by criticizing others.
'Whose house is of glass, must not throw stones at another' #GeoffreyChaucer

I know there are tons of cosplay models out there, but I think alot of people that don't get the costuming hobby believe that EVERYONE is a damned model. Or that everyone has to look exactly the part of whomever they're portraying. They don't believe that someone should be allowed to make a costume because they like the costume itself.

I've had a few people who were supposed to be friends of mine tell me I shouldn't be costuming as Sally the Rag doll and Sally Jupiter from Watchmen. I mean...really? Screw you guys. You're no longer my "friends".

I grew up as an over-weight kid who was called every nasty comment under the sun. It got to the point that my only, slightly, come back was to join in and make fun of myself. That hurts the most sometimes. You just stop believing in yourself and go along with what people say about it.

"Yeah, I ate 500 donuts this morning. I guess I should sit on you and squash you like a bug. I'm so huge."

There are people in this world that never grow up. Besides the immature over-weight jokes, I've been trolled for not having a good enough costume at Dragon*con -_-. This kid was NEVER in a costume the whole weekend. People's idiocy astounds me.

There are days where I believe I was the only one who had a mom who told her if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. I just can't comprehend why people get jollies off of trying to beat people down constantly.

It has to be a sad life.

I also know I am not the only costumer who feels she is backsliding into bad eating habits before EVERY convention while PRAYING that some photographer or passerby doesn't HAPPEN to snap a photo of her while her fat roll is poking up over her corset. Only to come home to find EVERY photo of her has a fat roll poking up over her corset.

Pfft...I had a cupcake and an ice cream cone yesterday. #NOREGRETS.

I take a 3-4 mile walk every day. I do kickboxing and Pilates. I eat fairly healthy. But be damned if I don't reward myself for staying up until 4 in the morning sewing! :p

(I made a LOTR's Rohan chamfron for my sister's pony and other leather items of tack). l

Oooh, I'd love to see that! Do you have photos? Back when we were showing regularly, we used to do costume classes with our horses. I'd love to get back into that.

I am very happy to see everyone supporting everyone's endeavors here.

It is true that we as costumers, MALE or FEMALE experience ridicule for their art.

I always tell myself-

"Always remember why YOU do it and remain true to yourself. Also always remember why you may do it may not be the same reasoning as others "

Body image is something that society magnifies exceedingly- I am proud to be in the company of ladies that defy, flaunt and celebrate themselves and their craft.

I love the positivity on this thread and want us to keep that focus.

I'll admit I'm a fan of choosing characters you can convincingly portray, but that is a personal preference, not a demand on others. E.g. I would never do a hobbit, because of my height; I just wouldn't be convincing as a hobbit.
Part of my preference for choosing characters you share some sort of semblance with comes from using my costumes for charity and interacting with children and adults; you don't want to ruin the illusion. :) But I won't demand that others should have perfect semblance to a character to do them, and I know I won't have that either. I just like characters with my general build; it makes it easier to do. (And besides there are so many to choose from it's not a problem for me finding some that I share at least some semblance with). I just love it when a person looks like they could have stepped right of the screen or page. :)

You just have to consider the source. Anyone who would be that nasty, ugly and vicious has a big problem. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and SO IS UGLY......if all they see is UGLY, it is because they are ugly inside and ugly is all they CAN see no matter what they are looking at. Petty, jealous, and unfulfilled themselves, they can't stand to see anyone having fun and enjoying life.

Don't give them credence by even acknowledging that you realize they wrote/said/did something nasty, that gives them too much delight. Reaction is what they are looking for and if you don't react, it deflates their balloons a little bit each time.

You'll notice there really are not very many "Long Term" naysayers. A lot of costumers and prop makers on here have been around for a long while, but the negative people, they burn out pretty fast. You can't stay that negative and nasty without it consuming you, and they rip and tear for a bit and eventually just fade away into the nothing they always were.

I am glad to see all the POSITIVE FLAUNTING that has gone on in this thread, and happy to see so many wonderful, talented, and beautiful ladies speaking up, joining up and joining in. It's a good day to be a member of the RPF!!!!

^ Love it!

I really want to get into "epic" costuming where my face doesn't show. Or I could be some monster of a male character.

One of the costumes on my bucketlist is a Kantus from Gears of War. I have all the ducks in a row I just am waiting for my wallet to pull the trigger. I LOVE IT!

Another would be a predator. AHHH LOVE IT.

It's tiring to be a "sexy comic book female" all the time. So it's refreshing to see women NOT taking that route sometimes :)

I'm Kayla, definitely got boobs, and I've been making costumes in one way or another for pretty much my whole life (going on 23 years) and sewing properly for about 10 years. In my high school fashion classes, I tended to be the "weirdo" making capes and corsets (true story) in the back while everyone else did "normal" projects. Most of the stuff I've done falls under plain ol' sewing, but in the past year or so I've started to get a bit more craft-y too.

I literally just joined RPF and this is my very first post here, but I've been a lurker for quite a while. Elsewhere, I have a few other costume making profiles (all in my signature; feel free to visit/comment/like/lurk). I have some background in historical and theatre costuming, and I'm also currently the head costume designer and head of wardrobe department for an independent film production company, Stainless Films (one short film completed, one in-progress, one pending). I don't have much time for personal projects lately, but I've still got a few in the works and I'm hoping to get them posted here before too long.

And I have to say, I'm loving this thread. :)

Just curious.... would you happen to be a Chiver too KCandCO? KCCO or is it just a coincidence

Loving all the costumes! Trying to get my wife to join in!

Amazing talent. I'm stuck trying to locate my photos, but I've been costuming for so long (since 1994) and after five hard drive crashes and 7 computer upgrades, many of my photos have "disappeared".

Working on several projects, but hop to post pics soon!

Great work by the XX brigade!

Awesome!!! For the dolphin puppet, I suggest the Oceana Puppet from
krittersinthemailbox.com. I went on an insane google search looking for the exact puppet when I was thinking about putting a Pam together.

Their site looks completely old school, but I ordered from them last year and got my stuff no problem. Shipping for me was only like $5.

Dolphin Puppets

Here is another site that shows what it looks like. For some reason the puppet picture wasn't actually loading on the other site. Aurora Dolphin puppet

Thanks! That dolphin puppet is perfect. I'm going to order one as soon as I get paid, or they start taking Paypal again.

This thread is so full of awesome. I'm loving the pictures everyone's been posting. I work with a lot of "normal" people who are kind of like "Ummm, that's nice" if they see my costumes and toys, so it's so great to know you're all out there. I hope to see you all at conventions someday.

to all the people that have something bad to say about anyone in costume, i prefer to say:
he/she is not costuming for your pleasure, its for themselves to have fun.

seriously, as long as you have fun portraying a character, who cares what anyone has to say. just do your thing and be proud of it, because the people who are making snide comments probably arent even capable of making an acceptable costume.

So I'm really curious, because there are so many women who are on the RPF and who have awesome costumes to show off, if there are as many threads started by women and their projects.

I'm not sure if that sentence makes sense lol!!!

Basically I'm kind of surprised at how many women are on the RPF because I feel like I haven't seen more then half of anyone's work that have posted on here before. Especially because there is such an array of different sorts of costumes. Maybe it's just that the thread never really seemed to implicate it was started by a woman and that's why it seems not as many women here create threads to show off their work.

Or do all of you create threads and they just disappear that fast? I know my threads can sometimes fade into the horizon pretty quickly lol so I wonder if that's what happens to most of them. (also I know this happens to a lot of guy threads to in general.....basically anything that isn't Batman or Iron man lol!)

If any of you have threads going please post them here as I'd love to follow them and just see what other ladies are up to. : )
