Hero/CC X wing hybrid Red leader completed!

Im told the motor unit is almost ready, so i should have it pretty soon i hope, itching to try it out. As for the paint, yeah im hoping i can pull it off too.

This is a whole new level of scratch building for me :cry The gear box for Lee's s-foil box had to be built to fit in the very limited space between the upper and lower hull. Try number six and motor number four finaly worked out. Heres what the gearbox looks like:

The biggest problem is dealing with the weight of all that resin.
Should have it finished soon

Well you put a grin on my face this morning buddy, its pretty exciting stuff, though for you just a headache :lol
Thanks for the mail and posting here Matt.

Well heres the final prototype motor unit, Matt just mailed me the pics and the balance of his fee :)
Fingers crossed guys, this is a first for me.... and Matt lol, or anyone as far as i know.
Thanks Matt, you did it buddy.

Not many buddy, been way laid waiting on parts, the motorised S foils wont happen now, looks like customs decided the package was suspect due to wiring etc etc lol.
I have got a manual S foil unit on the way so ill see how that pans out, i did however start the painting.
Using the ILM route of gloss white, rubbed down with wire wool and scuffed etc, the effect works well and give the model a nice rough patchy effect, still a long way to go, but Red leader will fly again lol.

bests.....lee

Looking good. bummer on the motorized S foil as i was really looking forward to see how that was going to be packaged in there.

Lee, I keep seeing these moutning poles that all of you are using while painting your models??? What are they and where do you get them???

Man, I'm seriously bummed about the motorized S foil. I imagine I'm not half as bummed as you are though.. such a sweet idea.

Could the wires be removed from the motor and then soldered back on when you got it?

Oh im totally bummed rick lol, but i guess the best laid plans huh. Its just a sign of the times and the world we live in, a package in brown wrapping showing wires etc etc in an X ray probably doesnt look to good lol.
Ill stick with hopefully manual wings i guess, if the motor one does ever show you know thatll be the one fitted, but Matt has gone to extreme lengths to build them and doing another on the risk of that going the way of a controlled detonation is too high.
As for the mount, there CCTV mounts from Panavise, very trick and prop looking and adjustable too.
Matt has stated that no more S foil units will be made as it was huge task, but who knows, hes a very busy, but excellent guy. Lets just hope i pull of the paint job or ill be just covered in egg lol.

lee

Just have the motorized foils sent by UPS or FedEx and declare the contents... Customs might open it, but I'm pretty sure it will make it to you. Might cost a bit more.
Also, I've seen the Panavise mounts a lot, too... How are you mounting them to the model? Is the end of the Panavise mount threaded rod?

best,
KK

Yep the end is threaded at 1/4, just put an insert in the model and your good to go.
The motor unit is maybe long gone now, sending another would be a risk for Matt as time is money and hes now built on motor and one manual for me, hey as long as i can get them to move itll be some recompence.

Some paint work done, still some retouching to do here and a long way to go till im happy.
Lack of ref makes it tricky all round, but what ref there is should be OK, ill just have to idealise here and there.
Opinions welcome as i need some lol.

Hey bro that's a good start; I enjoy your painting and say you kudos cuz Red Leader needs a lot of imagination to be completed due to the lack of ref as stated before.

The chip marks are great bro . And your red paint seems to be better than mine lol

Cant wait to see more .

Jerry shes had a damn good rub down already, ill tell ya that gloss white is hard to shift when cured lol.
The effect it had was great, its nice and patchy and very used, im going to emphasise this too with sporadic mists of dullcote here and there (an idea Bob gave me, thanks Bob :thumbsup )
Most of the chip marks are painted on with various methods, hacking into the hard paint was something i didnt want to do really, so some chips are done by masking off a small square, applying latex mask, and shooting with the airbrush. This method works great and takes away the look of it being handbrushed.
Rob thanks for the kind words, like i said, a long way to go, but i want a real hero prop feel to this build, and so far, to my eye, its going my way.
