Headgoonie Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Denim Jacket

They somehow lost the ability to fade the jackets the way they did in 2018. That was the jacket where they showed them applying the chemicals by hand.
Looking at the 2018, I really do think if they washed it JUST LIKE THIS with an indigo base, it would've been perfect. Even the waistband looks perfect.

When I was sent this photo two years ago to decide which one, I went with the 2018 XL which is a US medium. I feel like they missed the mark, just had to improve on the 2018 one. Yeah the collar is wild but still this looks the closest to the opening scene of the movie.

If a clean 2018 that looks good ever comes up for sale for $3-400, I'll probably buy it and figure out how to replace the buttons. One that still has some of the blue spray, of course. So if I ever find one of those in a medium, that's the one.

Agreed! I think the 2018 has the most accurate feel to it. In my opinion the 2025 has taken a major step backwards.

I think above all else, it should at the very least from a glance look like it's the same jacket thats in the movie. The 2025 doesnt even look like its the same jacket, the blue instead of more grey blue makes it look like a different jacket altogether. So all the attention to small details are redundant at this point.

The 2018 one really reminds me of how it looks in the film, it just screams Marty Mcfly. Photos and images are always going to be off/innacurate, particularly from that era, the faded shadows/blacks in old photos and heavy tints can really make it hard to determine how it really looked but when you watch the movie and then look at the 2018 it feels right. 2025 not even close. In the movie in certain lights it almost looks faded black/grey, which works perfectly when pairing with the blue denim jeans. The new jacket is so blue it feels more a Western/Cowboy jacket than the 80s look it had. Doesn't feel the same.

I appreciate it's easy to criticise from afar, and it is obviously a logistical nightmare to get all these different elements right.

It's never going to be perfect and you can't please everyone as opinions will differ but the 2018 is a great jacket. If they were running those I would buy one in a heart beat!

More than anything I feel for MitasTouch who put in countless hours working with HG to try and get this release accurate. Whilst I appreciate they are bound by what materials and processes are available to them, it's a real shame it's ended up being a backwards step rather than the accurate replica we all hoped it would be. I personally find it hard to believe that the colour and fading techniques are completely redundant and there must be someone out there that can do it, I think they just had schedules to work within that hasn't allowed for the additional development required. Another 3 + years wait for the next iteration I guess

I agree. They'll get the pattern down to the centimeter, but until they get their hands on a correct color garment, the color will always be wrong.

Out of interest, what are people's takes on the Max Cady jacket these days. I know it has issues of its own, but it's also a lot cheaper than the HG.

Yeah, I thought as much. Points for at least trying to emulated the correct lining though. Many don't. So aside from Magnoli are there any others on the market that people recommend?
