Harry Potter Quidditch Trunk Replica

Canada

New Member
I got the idea to create a Quidditch Truck replica after realizing that there wasn't a single full size replica anywhere on the Internet. Below are the results of shaping metal, designing 3D printed parts, woodworking and painting.

The set includes 1 hand made wooden trunk, 2 original design 3D printed bludgers, 1 hand made embroidered Quaffle finished in leather and a pair of original design 3D printed 5-piece Beater Bats.

I've always loved the design of this case. Crazy that one hadn't been built before!

Have any progress pics? Looks like a helluva assortment of building process on display here!

The trunk has so many unique features that each presented its own unique challenges in woodworking, CAD, 3D printing, metal work and painting... all of this while estimating every measurement imaginable. The challenge drive me every day... 35 days +, nearing 300 hours.

I used the snitch my daughter bought from the Wizarding World at Universal Studios in Florida. The trunk still requires hours of fine detail painting but I ran out of time prior to Chriatmas and had to present the gift to my daughter knowing I'd finish detailing it in the new year when time permits.

Looks great. I have one on the drawing board as well. Are you planning to animate the bludgers like the display at the wizarding world?

Yes, I am planning to animate the bludgers. However, that will take some time and I will post video when that has been completed. I also have to finish painting with fine detailing which includes shadows and highlights from the original.

did you guys make the metal fittings yourself? or did you buy them? if you bought them could please you link where you got them?

Thank you Vader and PHArchivist. Nothing on this build was able to be purchased and installed. Everything was either created from raw materials or substantially modified before being added. The only item that was purchased were three small hinges, that were significantly modified and combined with the flat metal strapping on the top of the trunk to replicate the proper look.

Nick Daring, the fact that no one had ever made one that was publicized made this build a MUST.

MERLIN'S BEARD! This is GLORIOUS!

What a wonderful job you have done on this. You must be a very skilled craftsman to have created this so beautifully from scratch. This rivals the on-screen original, and I can only imagine your daughter must be thrilled to have it, let alone it having been made by her own dad. Oh, what I wouldn't have given to have had a father that could make something like that for me.

Really fantastic job, Canada!
