Harry Potter Props and costumes

Thanks GS, the Hair is actually a ladies wig, which was close in length and style, cut to closer style, I'm trying to make the costume Movie accurate, After researching both by watching the movies .. a lot, going to the HP exhibition at WB studios, and reading the threads here, yours has been very helpfull, I set to.. the robes alone took me 6 hours to draft, cut and put together, not too keen on cartridge pleating but was easier than I'd expected...

These was taken before ironing and tidying, the curve is more pronounced than it appears..
I also found that there were indeed several of the costume for Snape, Including different robes, depending on what effect was required. Longer flowy robes for some scenes and shorter more practical robes for many of the indoor shots so that Rickman and those around him didn't keep tripping over them. Most of the Hi res shots on some of the threads are the more flowy Robes used for that impressive effect they are after. The ones on display however are the "practical" robes which are shorter.
Most costumers make the robes to echo the longer "effects" robes..
And of course the coat and trousers are Blue.. (having read with interest the colour discussion) and seeing the real thing for myself..

The complete costume at last.. The Robes have slipped back on my shoulders in these pics... must find a way to prevent this happening..

If you're worried about the weight of the cloak pulling it back, you could always attach an opera strap on the inside to help keep it pulled forward. I recently completed construction on a Snape cloak, and included one in mine.

Ooh... what is this opera strap of which you speak??

Simply AMAZING work, CG! Your outfit simply blows my mind...those cart pleats look wonderful, as does the whole ensemble. :)

You are to be highly congratulated, sir...I doff my hat to you! :thumbsup

No pictures yet, unfortunately.

The opera strap is a tie used on capes to keep them from falling back off your shoulders. These are especially helpful when there's no closure at the throat. They're used a lot on stage, hence the name.

With mine, I attached a strip of bias tape on the inside front, on both sides of the cloak, where the front panels meet the yoke, towards the arm hole. You then run the straps under the arm and behind the back, and tie it (or use Velcro, whatever works), and it will hold your cloak in place. You can walk at a brisk, Snape like pace, and your cloak will not slip or fall off your shoulders.

Opera/Cloak strap fitted.. and works perfectly..
I shall be able to pace with menacing speed and keep my decorum.. Thanks for that idea Zeppo.

You really must finish it... and the strap is a must.
Also .. at long last after 4 months of making.. my Wife's Bellatrix.
All the detail was done by hand, from the hand cut stencil taken from the original pattern for the stenciled swirls. to the Hand embroidered silver swirls. I then hand weathered the dress, and for my first foray into leather working I made the corset. I'll do a better job on the next one (my wife is loosing weight)
The wand is hand carved from Walnut by a maker on a well known auction site.. and even the detail in the boots is as close to the originals as we could find.
These are some shots for our groups clearance... will get better ones when we hit the Cons.

Excellent craftsmanship on the Bellatrix costume, CG....it looks awesome! :thumbsup

On a personal note: When I started ol' Snape a few years back, I was...well, to put it bluntly, thinner. But since that time, I must confess my love for holiday groceries and the fine art of Leisure Eating has driven my weight up to a point where, although I'm not grossly overweight, I wouldn't be able to pull off a convincing Snape, as you do....and if I can't do the character justice in respect to his size, then I would just as soon wait, until such time as I lose a few pounds! :lol

Glad the opera strap worked out for you!

Eventually I'll get some pictures in my costume, and put the up...right now though, I'm engrossed in another build.

Thanks for the idea with that strap... You have to do it Zeppo.. but I know how it is , when you get stuck into other peojects.. Every time I say... that's it... that was the last one...

Here is what Im working on:

2011-010.jpg

I will make a fx ready version, from carved wood, hiding electronics.
Here are the parts:

I made a first attempt a couple of months ago, using boxwood to make the wand, but I failed the drilling, because it was a very long piece of wood to drill...
I kept the handle blank, and found a different wood.

Today I drilled the handle, and made assembly,I starded the carving too,I will tke a new shot tomorrow!
