Harry Potter Costumers - UK

Hi peeps,

I've seen loads of HP costumers in the USA, but there seems to be less over here in the UK.

As a result I thought it would be interesting to stick a post up to see if there were any here on the RPF boards. It would be good to get an idea of the size of the UK HP costuming community (if indeed, there is one :$). Maybe we could find an event to all hook up at.

So, if you're in the UK and have a Harry Potter costume (preferably something fairly accurate as opposed to fancy dress ;) ), stick a post up here to say hi and include a pic of your costume & your location :)

I'll start - here's me in my Voldemort:

Name: Kieran
Costume: Lord Voldemort (specifically, the Order of the Phoenix version)
Location: Oxfordshire

Thx both

@ Ood - There's a link to the build at the bottom of my post (above) so you may want to check that out
(Note: It's NOT a step by step tutorial, but more of a summary of the build, but hopefully it will give you an insight)

Come on peeps - I can't believe there are no UK based HP costumers with half decent costumes :confused
We can't be letting the American's have all the fun :lol;)

I'm really beginning to think that the US likes Harry Potter more than the UK! :lol I have a group of friends in the US who all do really nice HP costumes. Unfortunately, we're all spread out around the country but we do meet up for conventions and we'll be going to Wizarding World of HP in July for the final movie.

I'd love to see you get a group together for the UK, Kessa.

Haha, the 2nd picture was taken at the NEC in Birmingham. Did you do Memorabilia? I'm one of the crew :)

Great costume btw!

@iycis - me too! lol There are loads of fab HP costumes in the US but very few (good) ones in the UK. Maybe it's because we have less events we can wear them too? :confused

@Firefly - it was indeed :lol , although sadly it wasn't at the one last weekend as I had a last minute personal issue to deal with so just whizzed up on the Saturday quickly to say hi to a few peeps.

Those pics were from the Nov 10 MEM.

It took 2 people 3 hours to apply so I only managed to get him out from about 2pm in the end so a shorter outing that I would have liked, but still great fun.

The reactions were "interesting" you could say.
You've probably seen how people react to us in our stormtrooper outfits (everyone comes up readily wanting pics, etc)

Well, Voldy got an entirely different kind of reaction (which wasn't entirely unexpected, but interesting to see just how differently people reacted)

Everywhere I went people ground to a halt and just looked stunned, shocked or unnerved.

I heard loads of really great/nice comments (lots of people saying how "scarily realistic" it was) but it was interesting to see just how many people were actually scared to come up for a pic. Lots of people were taking pics from a distance, or edging as close as they dared! :lol

I guess that's a compliment really as if I just looked like "a bloke with a mask on" they wouldn't be so scared, so hopefully that means I've done a good enough job at the resemblance. :love

You're not Anna are you? lol Drop me a PM, and we can have a natter about all things MEM :lol

Edit:
Oh, talking about MEM & HP events, do you know of any other (large) events which would be suitable for HP costumes? I know there's LFCC, Expo and Collectormania, but the "Muggle Mayhem" event which was scheduled got cancelled. Other than the premiere's I'm not sure what other events would be suitable. Just curious if you may have heard of any via the grapevine?

Blimey, are there no Harry Potter costumers in the UK? (well, on the RPF board at least)

OMFG Keiren! YOUR AMAZING!!! I wish you were here in "The States"! Even your make-up is exceptional! It looks as though you have actually shaved your head.

KUDOS to your Determination for perfectionism! My name is Shaunn Lawrence! I am the ONLY "Professor Dumbledore" that I've seen yet, that goes to the kind of trouble that you do for a costume.

I dress up like Sir Richard Harris as "DUMBLEDORE"! I have NO INTEREST in the "New Costume" (If you can call it that), that they have made for Micheal Gambon to wear in the successive movies since Mr. Harris passed away.

Sadly? We are separated by quite a distance. I just wanted to say hello! PEACE!

Thanks for the nice words Shaunn. Yeah sadly it seems like most of the costumers are based in the USA. We've got events like MEM and Expo but I guess we need to have a DragonCon over hear and then I expect that will change :lol as it seems to be a popular venue for HP bods over there.

I dont want this thread to go off topic, but equally, I'd be really interested to see your Dumbledrore. Dont suppose you fancy sticking it up in a thread somewhere? (or you PM me)

So, whilst I'm checking in, any more UK based HP movie accurate costumes out there? Currently I only know of 3 others (all Hogwarts based) and they're all in the same costuming club as me. There's got to be more out there! I'd love to find a movie accurate Bella and a couple of Death Eaters to keep Voldy company.

You may see more at the MK collectormania show at the end of th month as the twins are there for a signing.

Damn, I'm doing Voldemort at London Expo that weekend :(
I met James & Oli at LFCC a couple of years back when I was first researching Voldy and they were a lovely couple of lads (back then! :lol) to talk to.

It would have been great to see them to show them how he'd turned out. :(

You never know there might be HP people at expo, they still have not announced much so far on signers.

Yeah, sorry about that. The boss is so busy trying to arrange guests and sort out contracts that he barely gets a chance to update the website :lol

@Darth - wow, that's a seriously nice looking piece of work. I'd love to know how you tackled it.

For anyone how many be interested, I may be attending Expo again in October (saturday only) as Voldemort (I'll be one of the Stormtroopers on the Sunday) - I should hopefully have the "version 2" mask ready for then.

Ironically, i dont thin it's as movie accurate as the 1st version in terms of dimensions (as I was originally trying to get it done for the final premiere), but it's hopefully going to look more "anatomically" accurate. I'll be interested to see how it comes out. If nothing else, it should make the application a lot easier for my poor wife! If we can get the application time down to 2 hrs (from 3.5hours) I'll be a happy bunny.

Hopefully see some of you at Expo - if you see me, swing by and say hi (although I'll be " in character" so don't expect any pleasantaries lol
