Han Solo: A New Hope Costume Guide.

Not to mention I am pretty sure the toe of Han's boots changes slightly from ANH to ESB. It was a thinner, pointier, more riding boot specific toe in ANH (more akin to the CABoots) and the boots they used in Empire have the ever so slightly more boxed Officer boot toe that the Motorcowboy boots have.

Currently I have modified Devon Aires, I have a pair of CAboots on the way, and I'd like to eventually get a pair of MC's. Use then for different looks.

It's just something I noticed... Also, look on the side of his boot, It looks like there was a Pull Handle on the side or something :)

How accurate are the Solo costumes from 'Costumejunkie' on eBay?
[/b]

Huh?
It doesn't show that he is making a Han Costume

Well, ok. I guess my advice would be to not take so much stock in single view shots on the internet. Better to ask people who own the boots for a good shot. Also, those pics from the wallpaper have been badly trimmed in Photoshop. Especially around the boots. Makes the soles look way flatter than they actually are.

Now I'm not trying to vehemently defend the CAboots because i have some coming my way. More that, like others have said, finding good boots for Han is a tough assignment. There's not a ton of good reference. Only a few publicity shots that show the boots and they are pretty dark. Not a lot of full body screen grabs available. There's limited shots from exhibits of boots probably from ROTJ.

Basically the best readily available boots are ether the MC's or the CAboots depending on your personal tastes and how you see the boots as "correct." There's the eBay search for German Officer riding boots from WWII. But that can bring up a lot of bad purchases especially with lack of good pics on auctions. You can buy riding boots, either in flat topped Spanish style or altered English style, but those won't be spot on because that's not what Han wore. Riding boots usually have rounded tops, the top of the foot is different, the soles are often different, and they often include "bumps" above the heel for holding spurs.

Also, the pull handle you are seeing on the side is the stitching for the internal pull loops. Most high riding type boots have fabric loops stitched to the inside of the shaft. Pull hooks are inserted and used to pull the boot on.

Ah, my bad - I mean Costume Bay.
[/b]

I have both his ANH and ESB costumes. I won them for fairly cheap.

The pants are pretty bad. The stripes are about 1/2-3/4 of an inch wide and set that far apart. Way off from the actual size of the stripes. The stripes are on a separate panel of fabric between the side seams. They are fairly big pants as well. I bought the medium set and they were huge on me. A 34" waist or above I would say. But they lack pockets and are of a good colored twill. Though the movie ANH pants were made of brushed denim not twill. I used them as a base and am having a seamstress tear them apart and put them back together to fit me.

The shirts are alright. The cut and design is pretty much there. Though they lack some details and are of cheap materials. Both are made of a white cotton poly blend or something. The originals were off white and made of linen. They are well made and look pretty good if they are altered to fit right and dyed off white.

The vest is pretty good. The pockets are reasonably correct and the manufacture is good. Nice heavy black twill. I had mine altered to make it fit tighter and higher on my waist and it looks good.

The ESB jacket is also not bad. Good colored twill, nice manufacture. The front pockets are too small. I had mine altered to fit snug and had the bottom hem moved up and the pockets moved up and it looks pretty good now. He got the back pockets which everyone forgets.

The holsters are also in the alright category. They are real leather and have the right details but the actual holster has to be altered to fit any blaster. Seriously. ANY blaster. Even the Hasbro toy doesn't fit. The pockets hook onto the belt with snaps which is strange. But the hardware is real metal and they do the job for someone not willing or able to pay $300 for a hand made replica.

All in all, the main point is that everything is well manufactured. All in all the costumes are ok. They can be made to look pretty good with alterations and changes. So I wouldn't pay full price for them. But not a bad alternative to strict custom work.

Though when you get as detail anal as me, it's hard to overlook the wrongs and not want to go custom to get it right.

I'm a massive nit picker so here's what I find wrong.

Shirt:
Selves look to long.
But, I bet you would be able to hem them and get it to look right.

Vest:
looks to Big and long, Also the smallest he offers is a Medium.

Pants are SOOOO Wrong.
I would just throw them away, IMO.

Belt/Holster:
Is missing Pouches and Wrong placement of Droid Caller Holder.

I agree.
I think It's all about personal preference and what you think Is "Correct"

The pouches aren't missing. They're strangely removable. And the droid caller holder is in the correct place. Left hip. It's the pouch that's wrong. It should be in front of the caller bracket not behind it.

I wouldn't recommend throwing the pants away. The one thing they have going for them, as a base, is that they are pocketless. You can later Dickies or twill work pants all you want but they will still have pockets. You have to go custom to get pocketless pants.

Weird. I just looked at his new ROTJ costume and, for some reason, he made the vest blue for that one. Made a vest in the wrong color and didn't bother to fix the fact that the pockets are wrong for ROTJ.

Yeesh.

That's what threw me off :)

Though not listed on my site, I can also do these boots for $350 (shipping included anywhere in the world). For the first customer I'll take off 10%, so I can add these to my site. For anyone who doesn't know about my site, here are some other tall boots I've done:

The motorcowboy boots are the most accurate and the correct height since they are made to order. $350 isn't bad for a pair of custom boots to size. $525 is a bit overkill. Plus all of the WWII German officer boots I've seen to date have been too short for Han.

they have the toe wrong though...

I eventually had Caboots make them and I like them much better.

Also, if you don't mind paying the price, some of the best han clothing can be picked up from the magic wardrobe (the-magic-wardrobe.com)

excellent link :)
But I agree it is a bit pricey
[/b]

Yep... pricey... but the good news is custom fit to you, made to order, and you can discuss fabric options with them as well as color if you think you see something other than what they make.

I wanted to add that if you keep an eye out on ebay for some used English Riding boots, you might get a better deal on the boots than purchasing them new. The original screen used boots were used, any way.

I purchased mine from a local equestrian store (Mary's Tack and Feed) and paid $250 for them. I wish I had searched ebay first.

Also, I've got some easy to type in links to my website if any one is interested:

I've helped with some of the research on the Han costume for them.

Fly casually. ;)

By the way, you forgot to add the Han Solo Hoth ID badge to your list. I've got those. :D
