Here is mine so far. I want to darken the mount and nuts a little more and work on the flash hider. The sight greeblies I need to darken more with JAX before placing them on there. Still undecided about the scope knob.

you can make the aluminum scope body LOOK just like blued steel with some time and finesse. You left the AL black sit too long without buffing causing it to get chalky.

This method works the same on aluminum with aluminum black.

Of course if you idon'thave a lathe, you do it by hand, but the technique is the same.

this is for the older pewter flash hiders, but also the technique is the same and works with the aluminum ones and aluminum black:

Damn, Scott. That's how your scopes come out so sweet. Do you have any other cool unlisted finishing videos?

Birchwood Casey is nearly instantaneous. On the smooth aluminum scopes you'll need good contact and lots of repetition. You may leave it a bit longer but if it turns chalky that's too long. The other stuff..Denix bodies and the pewter stuff you don't have to repeat as much to get a good blackening. rinse and buff between each coat and paste wax when you're done!

My Todd's mount was very black/blue and my gun was a brown/blue so I ended up painting over everything but the FH and the scope. The gun blueing will come through when it gets weathered.

Decided to re-blue mine and it looks 10 times better. So while I'm in the process of redoing it, what are you guys using for a reticle if anything?

For those that ordered a brass knob, is anyone going to use any brass blueing to get the knob looking aged?

I used Birchwood Casey Brass Black on all the brass part. I knock some areas down in various degrees with steel wool to let more brass through. I need to redo the top of the scope dial as i knocked it down too much after looking at reference photos. Or maybe paint it...
