Han In Carbonite in Canada - Build thread

Wicked...

Once these are part of your package, you will have officially topped off the pile of parts for my HIC.

Then I gotta actually start putting this altogether... no more staring at boxes in the corner!

Same applies for my own panels!! So tired of looking at them unfinished! I didn't even install my own machined knobs yet!

Well, I have to admit that I have seen a bubble somewhere .. I'd need to find it again though! ;)

So clean!!!

Installation of the plugs .. I started them 2 weeks back but then we had our baby girl so all things went to a stop here. Now I'm back on this, I want my block out of the garage for good!

Bluerealm took over the run I wanted to do .. basically, he was much better equipped than I was to create these and they fit the Zenix box very well!

All plugs have the vacform nipples since those are molded from a positive, 1 few pass of sandpaper quickly take care of those tiny bumps...

Plugs were fitted and glued with liquid nail, but in the end, I wouldn't do it this way. I would use a glue that dries much faster and doesn't bump so much. It ended fine but I got really scared the plugs would deform...

Once the glue was dry, I trimmed the return edge which left me with a tad of space to fill. I probably trimmed them a little too short but nothing can't be fixed with filler...

First pass of filler, a tad heavy but I have powertool to help me out and I prefer more than less in this case to fill the small gaps properly!

I edited my post above, it was sent too fast!

Brian, very nice work on the carbonite!! Will you round those edges? It really really helps the look of the block! :thumsup

Yeah i started to round them a bit since the picture, was deciding wether or not to route them instead of just sanding them round.

Here's the first pass of filler sanded, most of the gaps were successfully filled .. Knowing how anal I am about the finish of my props, I will probably do another big pass and then a last one after that to correct the last flaws!

This first filler and sanding pass took me about 3 hours I'd say. Next one should be much faster as it will be much less filler applied!

Getting there people!!! :D

Definitely route them if you do have a router!! It will insure a nice even round edge .. I used 1/2" for mine and I like the result! If you sand it by hand, you'll see the wave of your sanding all along the edge line .. won't be as clean! My anal 0.02$ anyway! ;)

That looks great! Did you do the carbonite? or is that where you did the bondo-ing?
My mold was a full piece rubber from stormrider so i just went with what he had molded on there and did the edges to match. Couldn't wait to paint so i did 1/2 already lol.

Second round of bondo abd I was calling it a day!

And decided to reinforce .. In case .. Had seen it before. Error, the non expanding foam still pushed on the pockets and messed up my bondo job! Now I have to redo it again for 2 pockets!

If you're to try this, do it before the bondo job but really, it's useless in my mind and I shouldn't have done it!

Dude that sucks !!
But then again practice make perfect. . I wouldn't have thought that the foam would have that much pressure though!!! Hum...

Bah .. Learning process here!! Plugs being plastic is a little normal! Plus my method to glue them down with Liquid Nail is definitely not the best way to do it! It will be fixed soon though! Just need to find more free time in the garage...
