Who can forget this furry blue loveable pal! With a foam base head and belly this blue monster is a dee-lite to build. While dying the fur can create some toxic fumes the end result is very pleasing. Grover is a rod-arm style puppet, two arms are controlled with two custom-crafted arm rods which insert at the wrists; or you can simply pin the right arm and just operate the left.
Grover is great as he's part of the old-school Sesame cast; he's certainly an important part of Sesame history!

Looks good. You have to make the super grover outfit though. It may be the lighting but is his nose and lip textured?

Yea, no orders for SUPER GROVER as of yet! But I'd love the opportunity to make that costume!
The lips are a died thin sheet of foam which is cut and layered over the bottom mouth piece. The nose is covered in a synthetic fleece, also known as Antron fleece.

WOW; Super Grover would be awesome...I think these are just incredible, great work! I may have to commission you to build me a few.
I love the color of fur, this definately looks more like the classic looking Grover from the 1980's. I don't like the new one, it's too fuzzy. The one from the 80's had a more matted down fur, more like yours.

Thanks a lot!
Yea, when replicating these I try and dig for the root of the character, and I feel that was certainly during the late 70's and throughout the 80's. These characters were definately at their best back then both in performance and appearence. Although there are some qualities I prefer in the later years such as a character like Big Bird who just kept improving as well as Oscar who is one I'm working on now... But certain ones like Grover or Piggy for some reason just don't look quite right now. So the Grover I built here does have more of a matted look to his fur, however not quite as matted as it was on the show in the 80's, it's sort of a cross between then and the 90's look which was nice too.

Awesome! When I was kid, 30 years ago now, Grover was THE muppet. "Back in my day we didn't have no stinking Elmo....."
And the parents never saw Snuffleupagis (SP) You know, the big furry mammoth thing. Hey, could you guys make him?

HAHA, A Snuffy, that would be sweet! I just PM'ed you on that... I have no limits when it comes to collecting! lol.
So are the fingers bendable?? I remember the older skits with Grover his fingers just sort of were very loose and seemed to be just fur without anything in it; but in later years it seemed like the fingers were bendable; is it just me or is that so?

Got it...
Yes, I usually make the fingers wired up to bend and pose, however I've had some that I've built with the loose look as well, so it's really your preference.
In the early years yes, Grover's fingers did not have poseable fingers, many of the characters back in the 70's had more of a loose feel to them, I think it actually gave them more character and made parts of them seem more alive; however I do like having the option to be able to pose the hands, it allows for more action that the puppet can take like posing the hand around a cup or pencil, etc...

Your muppets are great. I love to see them so much. It makes a lot more fun for me to see them among the 101st "perfectly sculpted" Batman, Superman, Robocop, Alien, Frankenstein, Freddy and Co, Spock, H Fords and of cause the Terminator. So refreshing!:lol

Well thank you! Much appreciated. The replica world is fun for everyone! I'm just glad to be able to make these available to people like yourself.
