Well, I basically copied MrGzilla only I kept the center gem.
Used two-part epoxy and foil.
Differences are:
Dremeled the surface of the band so it looked less manufactured. Drilled a hole under the gem for possible LED assembly. Cut the band and tried to bend it but it isn't going anywhere. Also painted a little silver ring around the gem, but I knicked the plastic up so it's a bit uneven.
Fun little project.
What kind of foil did you use? Looks great!
I picked up two rings at TRU today. Began modding one of them. Here are the specifics:
1. Removed the copyright and weathering on the metal band with superfine steel wool.
2. Removed the top plastic piece.
4. Been Dremeling the inside of the band so it'll fit my Kilowog-sized finger. I think I'm almost there. It's been a real pain!
3. Cut a stainless steel ring to size, which will surround the gem. It looks great!
I'm planning on (maybe) keeping the stock gem (unless anyone can suggest a better replacement piece), but I don't know what kind of reflective backing would provide a nice, bright green sparkle. I'm looking for that "cracked" gem appearance, but I didn't have any luck at Michaels or Jo-Ann Fabrics today.
I'm thinking maybe a clear-colored (not green), mirror-backed rhinestone, with the stock gem in front of it, would provide a nice, bright green appearance. Thoughts?
