Green Lantern movie rings at Toys R Us

If you're looking for a metal ring to fit inside the gem area, this is what I'm using:

penandgem.jpg

You can see the ring from the pen fits the gem from Michaels EXACTLY. In fact, the gem has a slight taper, so the ring will not fall past the gem. If you glue the gem to the metal ring, you can glue the metal ring to the indent of the ring and it will fit exactly. This also gives you a bit more room to work with for fitting electronics under the gem.

The pen is a Sanford "Expresso" medium felt tip pen. My father works at an advertising firm, and I've been using these pens since I was little to draw, so they've been around a while. I tried looking them up online, and it looks like the current revision comes in a similar style, however it seems they've phased out the metal ring.

I just got off the phone with my dad and he says he might have boxes of these pens at work still, and he also says that whenever one goes dry, he saves the metal ring off of it, and thinks he might have a couple film canisters in his desk at work full of them. (I have no idea why he would do that, but thats my pop.) He'll call me tomorrow and let me know if he has any left. Anyone interested?

One more quick thing I've found before I pack it in for the night: If you use an xacto knife to put a few random scratches in the back of one of the michaels gems:

You get this more fractured looking pattern:

Those scratches are a great enhancement! Good idea!

I could use two of the rings if you find you have any.

Picked up one of these rings. They have a whole box of these there. Unfortunatly, the ring is alot smaller then what everyone here said...just fits on my pinky finger :'(

Yes, I'm interested...put me down for two of them please.

If anyone has a Marc's store in their area, they typically carry tons of different styles of pens in large bins. They range from plastic to metal. If JKolton can't get anymore, it might be another route some of you can take.

I just got the ring today, fits on my middle finger. :love

Got a metal ring from a pen that fits perfectly. Just need to get the jewel tomorrow, disassemble the ring, add the metal ring/jewel, and put it back together.

Can't wait!!! :thumbsup

Thanks to all who contributed in this thread. :cool

I'd be very interested in a couple of rings as well if the offer is still available please! Thanks!

Silly question..... I've pulled twisted and carefully pryed to try to get the plastic and metal sections of my Toys R Us ring apart. Can someone give some specifics or a tutorial on how to get this ring apart without damaging it? I've seen some of the great modifications you guys have made to your rings, and I'd like to make some mods of my own, but don't want to ruin my ring. Thanks!

If going in from the top of the ring, you have first remove the little "gem" in the center with a mini-screwdriver or something similar. There are two legs holding it in place; these will slide out of their slots with enough distributed force, but they will break rather easily as well.

Once that's out, you'll see the rivet holding the rest of the plastic in place. Drill that down and eventually the rest of the plastic will come loose...
