Green lantern getting Horrible reviews!

For me and probably a lot of others, he's just another male super hero who must overcome the clichéd plot devices that are as easy to predict as saying your ABCs. Nothing new here.

Yeah, that was my biggest problem with the film. It felt so generic and cliched. I mean, how many time shave we seen the whole "I'm not the right man for the job... I don't know if I can do it" kind of dilemma? I have a feeling the Captain America movie is gonna have something similar based on the previews.

I would have liked to see a lot more development of the Corps characters. Tomar Re, Kilowog, and Sinstero seemed to be squandered. I mean, it would have been nice
to see them in the final battle with Parallax helping Hal, rather than have the whole "I'll sacrifice myself if I have to to save the world, even though I know you know I won't die because I'm the main character of the movie" type of battle. To me, that was a huge missed opportunity. And Hal beat Parallax so easily... what the hell was the deal with that? For some reason, Final battles in movies nowadays don't seem to be as epic as they used to be. I want the hero to win by the skin of his teeth, and I really hate it when the victory is so easy, especially when everyone in the film is whining about how terrible an adversary the villain is supposed to be...

Oh yeah... Parallax is a cloud. :angry:angry:angry(n)thumbsdown:thumbsdown

never a huge green lantern fan , and after superhero hype basically said it was ****e , i went in with low expectations , but i thought it was good , as good as the green lantern could have been , again not being a huge fan .

Probably going to go see it tomorrow.

As a side note...

Larry, everytime I glance at your avatar I keep thinking you are smoking a cigar. For a while I thought you were, then realized thats a GL ring :lol

It's only professional critics, professional screenwriters, and professional whiners who seem to be hating on it. It's on-track for a 55 mil opening weekend.

It looks to me like only the true Comic Con crowd seems to like it. 55 this weekend - down to 3rd or 4th next - no way what Warner was needing or predicting.

I don't follow studios close enough to know what they were predicting; what were they looking for?

But whatever it was, maybe their expectations needed to be reined in? I mean, for every GREEN HORNET, there's a SCOTT PILGRIM. The Comic-Con crowd couldn't save that one. :lol

Yep. I hear ya. 300mil (a little higher actually factoring some of the extra boost publicity they tacked on - trailers weren't enough) but any way 55mil, heck even 65 is terrible for a movie with all that money behind it. It seems someone was asleep behind the wheel when it came to marketing --- it started way late. I'm sad it may not clear it's bar because it looks like this movie was made just to get to a sequel.

First, it's just their opinions and from my standing, it's not hard to see why most wouldn't like the movie as is.

Second, the whole "dream about seeing a big budget movie featuring a second string character" does not does not make this movie special. This film is being reviewed on it's own stand alone merits where your "second string" character is the main driving force of the movie. Don't bash the critics because they don't share your dreams about seeing a character they probably have no understanding or previous interest in finally appearing on the big screen. That is not what this movie is about.

And third, screw Green Lantern. For me and probably a lot of others, he's just another male super hero who must overcome the clichéd plot devices that are as easy to predict as saying your ABCs. Nothing new here.

I find it odd you should use the "opinion" defense after telling me my opinion was wrong twice.

I've got no problem with you disagreeing with me. At least grant me the same courtesy.

No, wanting to see a movie featuring a second string character doesn't automatically make it special... Unless you care for the character and clearly you don't as you made so abundantly (and rather rudely) clear.

As for reviewers, I don't respect most online blog reviewers because most of them have too much ego involved, particularly in this case where it seems to me that they really just want to be the first to say "I told you so" more than anything else. They are hardly above criticism themselves. You disagree? I can deal with that.

Your last comment about Green Lantern is just a personal jab... completely unnecessary and simply immature.

Honestly, I never saw GL as a second string character - his book has been running constantly since inception, he's featured in multiple titles and when you line the heavy hitters up - Superman and Batman are first, no doubt, then you get to Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Flash (perhaps Aquaman thanks to the Superfriends cartoon). If you pick up Batman, you are headed to the world of crime and downtown investigation. Superman deals with America and where it fits - Green Lantern is the superhero for those who enjoy sci-fi. He's interstellar = operating throughout deep mysterious regions of space. I just wish they had spent more time really looking at the whole "what if this happened to you, how would you handle it - would you accept the responsibility? Greatest American Hero looked at this from a comedic view - but they did a good job in my opinion on how something like this would really mess up your life.

You just made the point that GL isn't a second string character in this huge explaination, but you missed the part where you divided the first group and placed GL in the second. :lol

Really? I thought it was pretty good considering that Green Lantern is, unquestionably just another male super hero movie that doesn't have anything new or unique to offer.

A human who gets recruited by an intergalactic alien society to help fight evil but thinks being chosen was a mistake?
The Last Starfighter

A super hero who can fly, shoot bolts of energy and spends time with his love interest on rooftops?
Superman

A protagonist who's cocky, self-centered, arrogant, sleeps around with women and argues a lot with his female love interest that he may or may not have affection towards?
Iron Man

A protagonist who's a hotshot pilot that's constantly bothered by issues about his father dying in a plane crash, loses self-confidence in his profession but gets it back with the aid of his friends?
Top Gun

A villain who is a cloud like entity that consumes planets?
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
BONUS ROUND: The writers of that film even said "You don't want to sort of blow out something that big and massive for one quick shot in the first movie.", so already more thought was given to the awful Fantastic Four sequel than Green Lantern.

A council of wise aliens who run an intergalactic police division, sit around in a circular fashion in their chamber, make stupid decisions regarding how to handle a universal threat and have had one of their own betray them? And of all the members of their intergalactic force, only four male Lanterns are given dialogue, while the women are given none and are dressed in ways to show off their titillating assets. Also, a human found by accident just happens to become their most powerful member who ends defeating their most dangerous threat?
Star Wars Prequels

In summary, this movie isn't so much a movie, but more like movie loaf. It's a product made up of other good and bad movies that even on their own did a much better job at focusing on character, conflict and over all common sense.

Thank you Mike Nelson!

Saw it yesterday. Just like most are saying, it is good, not great, not bad, just good. I'm sure "good" is kinda disappointing considering the budget.

:lol I see how you read it that way, but I was trying to say, in order to consider GL a second rate character you have to say Wonder Woman, or the others I listed are as well. Most people wouldn't consider Wonder Woman as a second string character - Hawkman, The Atom - are second string.

this was hard for me because i have been a fan of the green lantern for so long... i think ryan of fine but i just couldnt picture blake as carol ferris. i think the fault of the movie goes to the writing and story.. i still believe it should have been kyle rayners story first . and if they had to do hal jordans story it should have been about the man hunters.

but i didnt hate it but it could have been better

i am thinking bout making the suit , i am thinking molding foam and leds what do you guys think?

I went to see this yesterday, and I thought it was great. It could just be that I like just about any comic book movie, but I actually enjoyed it. I'm going with a friend this time to see it again tonight.
