Green lantern getting Horrible reviews!

I think a lot of stuff shown in this movie didn't matter to the story, but back to your point. Didn't they already show case that he didn't know how to use the ring when he couldn't figure out how to work the darn lantern?

True but when he hit those guys, it was the first time he actually used its power and then only by accident rather than by intent. And then, after that, the ring took him to OA.

And for anyone interested... Harry Knowles posted his review... he seems to fall into the same category of liking it while recognizing that the movie isn't perfect: Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

OK just got back from seeing it and I too am pissed off at all the negative reviews. This movie was NOT bad. It was NOT great. It was a good movie.

I said it and I stick by it. It could have been better but I feel the reviews are pretty off base.

Sinestro needed more screen time, as did all the OA stuff but overall it worked. Even my wife who hates every friggin movie I love said it was pretty good.

I really hope the fence jumpers give it a chance and ignore the critics as obviously they saw a different movie than I did and were expecting Shakespeare as opposed to a movie about an intergalactic cop.

The last quarter of the movie was especially good and Sinestro is just awesome

So...no Guy Gardner?

Best Lantern Evah!

Sadly no Guy. I was hoping they'd have the rumored shots of Clark Kent and Guy Gardner being considered as ringslingers but no dice.

Hell, I was pleasantly surprised to see Rot Lop Fan of all lanterns in the crowd seen. Didn't get to see the bell, but that's a fairly geeky insert. I must have missed Ch'p, that bums me out.

Okay - here it comes and I won't disappoint -- The movie is not terrible, nor is it good -- it's worse, the movie lacks. It lacks in all of the moments that were needed to build a solid story structure. There are plenty of spots where it overflows -- when it comes to special effects, well, the 300mil was on screen. I had no real problem with Reynolds, other than the fact his journey wasn't handled in the way that would have best served the character, especially since it littered one of the coolest, no fear bad-asses with cliche' nonsense that some studio lunkhead felt needed to be there. For those who don't know, Hal was never a screw up who searched for self worth. He was the guy who broke out when his back was to the wall - the one who felt at home in the eye of the storm - in other words, WORTHY above all others to wield the most powerful weapon in the universe.

And what was up with the editing? There's one moment in the film that should have been allowed to play, simply because it's a cool scene - but instead it was ping-ponged against another scene for no real reason what so ever. I get what Campbell was going for - but it didn't work.

I loved GL as a kid - he was one of those heroes who could be anybody (like Captain Universe in Marvel). I admit, i found myself at times cracking a smile (Sinestro is perfect), but there's just so much in the road that keeps this thing from opening up on the highway and showing you how good it is to be a Green Lantern

Did you know Tim Robbins worked for scale on this movie? Green Lantern was his favorite superhero when he was a kid. As a token of thanks Martin Campbell gave Tim a screen used ring and Power Battery.

And now you know the rest of the story

Just watched it in 3D earlier not bad not great easily worth ten dollars to see though just for the visuals not THOR great but on the big screen still pretty stunning It had several great moments! It is well worth watching just for sinestro who stole the show! Also stay awhile after the credits!

Ryan Reynolds would have made a much better Kyle than Hal though.

Everyone seemed to hate DareDevil, but I liked it. Would you guys consider this to be better or worse than DareDevil?

I also enjoyed DareDevil. Green Lantern is MUCH better! Not quite as enjoyable as Thor but still very entertaining.

Definitely better than Daredevil

On a nights sleep I actually want to go see it again. I think i missed allot during the OA scenes, there was so much to see

I still think this movie is good, as JB said it is lacking but it is good.

I'm honestly kind of angry at all the nasty negative reviews at this point. Folks that are complaining about this movie clearly never knew what it was like to dream about seeing a big budget movie featuring a second string character like this (i.e. any character that is not Superman, Batman or Spider-Man).

First, it's just their opinions and from my standing, it's not hard to see why most wouldn't like the movie as is.

Second, the whole "dream about seeing a big budget movie featuring a second string character" does not does not make this movie special. This film is being reviewed on it's own stand alone merits where your "second string" character is the main driving force of the movie. Don't bash the critics because they don't share your dreams about seeing a character they probably have no understanding or previous interest in finally appearing on the big screen. That is not what this movie is about.

And third, screw Green Lantern. For me and probably a lot of others, he's just another male super hero who must overcome the clichéd plot devices that are as easy to predict as saying your ABCs. Nothing new here.

Saw the movie last night with my family and everyone enjoyed it. I was the only person that knew the DC GL, and was quite pleased with the approach. My family who had no idea who the flip he was still thought it was pretty dang cool.

I dont understand why there is so much "hate" for this movie, but i recommend seeing it.

It's only professional critics, professional screenwriters, and professional whiners who seem to be hating on it. It's on-track for a 55 mil opening weekend.

Lar, tell us how you really feel?

Gonna go see this'n in the morning. The ONLY expectations I have are to spend two hours at the movies. Aside from Superman (Loved the Byrne era) and some Batman, I was all "Make Mine Marvel!"
