Okay - here it comes and I won't disappoint -- The movie is not terrible, nor is it good -- it's worse, the movie lacks. It lacks in all of the moments that were needed to build a solid story structure. There are plenty of spots where it overflows -- when it comes to special effects, well, the 300mil was on screen. I had no real problem with Reynolds, other than the fact his journey wasn't handled in the way that would have best served the character, especially since it littered one of the coolest, no fear bad-asses with cliche' nonsense that some studio lunkhead felt needed to be there. For those who don't know, Hal was never a screw up who searched for self worth. He was the guy who broke out when his back was to the wall - the one who felt at home in the eye of the storm - in other words, WORTHY above all others to wield the most powerful weapon in the universe.
And what was up with the editing? There's one moment in the film that should have been allowed to play, simply because it's a cool scene - but instead it was ping-ponged against another scene for no real reason what so ever. I get what Campbell was going for - but it didn't work.
I loved GL as a kid - he was one of those heroes who could be anybody (like Captain Universe in Marvel). I admit, i found myself at times cracking a smile (Sinestro is perfect), but there's just so much in the road that keeps this thing from opening up on the highway and showing you how good it is to be a Green Lantern
Did you know Tim Robbins worked for scale on this movie? Green Lantern was his favorite superhero when he was a kid. As a token of thanks Martin Campbell gave Tim a screen used ring and Power Battery.
And now you know the rest of the story
