Hi guys
You can never have enough builds at once...so here goes another one. :rolleyes
This ´69 Camaro Z/28 is my favorite vehicle from the PS3 game Gran Turismo 5. It is one of a few cars in the game that have an option for a racing modification. The modification includes a weight reduction, a racing interior, a lowered racing suspension, modified wheel openings for big racing slicks and nice loud exhaust. It looks pretty much like a classic race car from the old Trans Am Series. Here´s an example pic from the game, I´m not sure about the paintjob yet.
For this build I´m using the lovely Revell kit of the Z/28, which is a great base to start with. It has a correct hood and a nice 302ci engine with a crossram and some great headers. I have started with reshaping the wheel openings to lower the body and fit some big Nascar slicks.
This is how the stock body looks out of box.
I´ve cut away some material and used the slicks as a template for cutting. Then a thin strip of sheet was glued into the arch. After the sheet was sanded to shape I could add putty to get a nice transition from the arch to the quarter panel. The fake vents behind the doors were also removed to match the reference car from the game.
In the next picture you can see the reshaped panel below the grille. Big openings were added to get some cooling air to the engine. Additionally the grille was sanded down from the backside for a more realistic look.
Let´s get back to the rear end. Here you can see the tight fit of the racing slicks. The shape of the quarter panel is almost finished.
Another pic for comparison. As you can see, the wheel arch is now a fair bit higher compared to the stock version.
After some more sanding a coat of white primer was added. That gives an even surface and helps to see if more putty and sanding is needed. But I`m happy with the result. It looks like it came out of the box like this.
Now I need to find some smaller tires for the front end before modifying the other wheel openings. So there may be slow progress on this WIP.
Another thing that I´m thinking about, is to recast the body in resin when it is finished and offer it as a transkit. It will be a correct replica of the car from the game. I have already posted this in the junkyard with little (zero) response. Maybe it catches some more interest this way.
The thing is...it would need a certain number of potential buyers to make it worth putting up a transkit. I´m in contact with one of the best resin casters out there. It´s the guy who has also made the Eleanor transkit and his resin car bodies are definately top notch. So please let me know if this catches interest by some people.
Best regards,
Kevin
