I did it. I did it..

I actually got my melon-head inside that freakin' thing.  :lol

It's actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

It's tight ("toight loik a toiger." :p ), to be sure, but not altogether uncomfortable (and smells "new car leather-y" *snnniiiiifffff* :lol )

One thing learned:

You'll never get the neck brace piece on if you're alone.

It's a two-person job.

Anyhoo:

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO..."

:lol  :lol

And people were worried about that helmet being too small(on the outside). It looks great. Considering you got one without chips and scratches in the fiberglass....

Makes me want to get a screen accurate ROTS costume, so I can go to events and just do the "NOOOOOOO" and while in that pose, over and over.

I didn't order one (gonna stick with my highly modified Rubies) but always wondered about the new neck style that they put on the Ep.3 helmet. Can you turn your head well with that longer contoured neck on it?

well let me tell you...after reading this thread and seeing only one good helmet so far...im so glad i decided to not gamble and cancel my order. The portumac helmet i got far esceeds any gamble that would have been taken with MR and for less cash...plus i still have my modified rubies as well...i feel bad for all you guys that got screwed and hope it is a quick and successful fix for you...no more better on products for me

Totally agree........my Portumac is much better. Plus its half the price.

Frankly, if you really want a great piece and it arrives like this, my first reaction is to see if I can fix it. Because I really have a hard time letting it go once it is in hand. If I could buff it out, I would try, not going to do any worse with the piece. Its the reason I spent hours buffing out the Narnia sword and the same with carefully heating the nautilus tail to get it straightened out. Both I hold dear to the collection here.
The other molding issues and breakage flaws pictured here on the Vader helmet would be disheartening for me to receive personally.

The pedigree on this MR replica is top notch, you are not going to get any better in that regard. Watching the making of the last film with the helmet molds really had me looking forward to seeing one of these in hand. However, for the price, I am also pretty darn picky to make sure I get a beautiful perfect piece that represents that pedigree of MR/Lucas licensing. And I don't mind paying the dollars to ge the best one out there, as long as I get what as is advertised.

With that much $$$ MR is asking for this thing I expect it to be in nothing less
than Perfect condition - after reading all this I cancelled my order immediately - :(

Agreed and well said Trip.....QC issues aside, which I would hope would be corrected on the next batch, I don't think you can get a better pedigree than this for these lids. MR just needs to correct these QC issues....I'm somewhat relieved by seeing pix of Darth Bill's helmet...although I will still go over mine with a fine tooth comb when I get it......so hopefully there's good news at the end of this yet.....

Okay, I just got back from my local cominc book shop.

3 people ordered the ROTS Vader helmet. Each box was open and each dome has scuff/scratch marks on the exact same place. Everyone of them... That is rediculous.. What is wrong with MR?? These things should be taken care of in the first place.

It is a good thing I cancelled my order for the helmet, or I'd be one angree collector. I don't know Kev, you may have the same problem as everyone else...I sure hope not though.

Also very anxious to see Darth Bill post pix of his.....

Holy sha-molee....

In all this negative, there has to be a positive somewhere, right...?? ....right?

Weeeellllll....

I'm finally home and have mine opened up and.......

...let's just say this boy of Scottish/German ancestry had "The Luck of the Irish™" today.
(Got my helmet and won a set of autographed Sabian cymbals from a contest I'd pretty much forgotten I'd entered... :lol )

I'm happy to report that mine is NOT going back. :D

YES, it did have some scuffing on the top but because I'd been "forewarned and forearmed" with some mightily lowered expectations, I went in prepared. ;)

Of course, telling y'all it looks fantastic is one thing, huh?
SHOWING y'all is something else.

Guess the blind OC guy must have been on his tea break when yours went through, this is why it turned out oK. Congrats

I'm sure someone there is asking how they could let a good one slip through, huh? ;) :lol

mine will be arriving in a couple of days, and to be honest, I can live with the scuffing, it's not a massive problem. As long as it's structurally sound i'll be very happy.

got mine today...#276
yes the top is scuffed but its not that bad, just some rubbing.

But I did a bad thing....
Don't pull in the inside clinder shape pad in the mask top ..mine came off, I thought at first it was velcroed so I could take it out and then I found out the it was not.
I can fix it with some glue on the pads (there are a stack of white foam disks wraped in black leather)

oh and I have a small head (wore a xtra small pro-mask in the Army) So it fit very well with some space to give. But I would say am a little short to be a Darth Vader...maybe a Maul.

All in all I would give it a B+
No chips but it did come scuffed and the padding thing (they need to use more glue)

And to me this is a big helmet and after working Star Wars Weekends I can say it is lighter then those and the size compared to them is very close. Dome is great.

Very shiny

now the wait for the Clones

I received six of these from MR and the first one I opened was for me.
There was a tiny bit of a scuff mark on my dome but as soon as you put the dome on the helmet you wil have a bigger scuff mark on the front of the mask where the dome touches.
I opened all the rest and two had no scuff at all and three had a tiny bit.
I have bought many things on this board and other places and I have paid a lot of money. My Vadermaker helmet has a drip on the front of the dome.
I think I paid 600.00 for that a couple years ago from Graham.
I have a portumac ROTS helmet and that helmet is not even in the same category as this one.
Are they flawless? No. Will it take 10 minutes to polish the helmet and make it perfect? Yes.
Now I received "6" of these and I would send one back for a tiny defect in the undercheek.
None of mine have huge scratches most of that is dried wax it comes off with a fingernail.
I know MR does make some mistakes but I can not believe the bashing this helmet is taking.
I have a lot of pieces and I believe that not piece in my collection is perfect.
Are yours?
Show me.
This helmet is unlike anything that has been done before this is pretty much an exact to the filming helmet. It is a masterpiece that I love to add to my collection.

I know other people do not feel this way and maybe I am in the Minority but we are a very very very very and another very picky bunch.
Thinking about it I do not think there is any thing sold that is perfect.

I own a BMW 645 an 80,000 dollar car and I can find little things wrong from the factory. there are always little things wrong, we are human.

Rant over

URGENT......

Here is a tip that will save you tons of crying and massive headaches................

Go to Walmart or equivalent........and purchase in the craft section, some black sticky back felt sheets.......

Cut out a square and put it inside the dome where it will contact the faceplate.

I've started doing this on all my helmets. Or else you will scar the face plate.

I hope this tip helps......it's simple and cheap.

Dave :)

Nah....I don't buy that....I have a MR Trooper blaster that is perfect...not one scratch, paint drip, scuff....case is perfect...not one scratch....nothing. And I bought it used.....from a member here. So yeah, they can make the lids perfect...they just gotta try harder. I expect nothing less......
