Glitch from Reboot (Progress Pics up) WIP (Need more ref pics)

I did some searching for watches that I could use and landed on this one, the Tokyoflash Rogue.

http://nexus404.com/Blog/2008/08/26/tokyoflash-release-rogue-led-wrist-watch/

The electronics look like they'd be perfect to match the lights seen on screen but still be a functional watch, it would just have to be re-cased. Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey AND sold out to boot. But I thought I'd throw it out there in case anybody else liked the idea.

I KNOW that I've seen a watch that was shaped exactly like Glitch and was about 1.75-2 inches in diameter, and it was a cheap one too, but I can't seem to track it down now.

Very cool find Risu, I would love to use this as the center of Glitch, but as you said, pricey. I was going to go to homedepo and see what the biggest size 'nut' they have is, since I've seen some that look like that.

The shape's been bugging me and I finally remembered what it looked like:

The large style K'nex rubber tire. IIRC they're about 3" diameter so may be a bit larger than you want.

Holly hell, I gotta find one of these now, I only had the space ones when I was little.

And Amen for Depot Trips

That is pretty decent. Any idea what the ID is? It's gotta be 1.5" to match the scaling of the prop.

Cool, can't wait to see it. In the meantime I'm going to start building the main body piece and finding materials for the bar.

I've got a bunch of the tires packed away, I'll see if I can dig one out tonight and get some dimensions. Just FYI, the ridge pattern alternates on each side so you'd have to either modify the tire or cast a half and mess with it that way.

I got my materials for the bar, it's going to be epic once it's finished, made out of machined aluminum and copper polished to a mirror finish.

As soon as I get photoshop reinstalled I'll make the template for the main body so I can pep it.

And last, I found a good piece of plumbing for the bezel of the screen. Now I just need to find or make the outside cog shaped part, glue the pieces together, smooth it out, and cast it. If anybody else is interested in castings, just let me know.

It's been a while since I've been so excited about a project, I can't wait to start making some real progress.

The bar is two pieces; a 1/2" ID copper pipe from Home Depot and a 5/8" OD aluminum round rod from a local machine shop. They have the same OD. I had them cut to length at the machine shop and will quickly turn the aluminum to thin out the center next time I get some hours at work, then cut it in half and slide the halves into the copper pipe.

For the bezel piece my intention was just to find something with a 1.5" hole in the center surrounded by a bezel, nothing else mattered. So the piece of this PVC adapter I'll be keeping is on the inside where the ID shrinks from 1.75" to 1.5". I'm going to get a pocket watch lens on ebay for about $5 that will fit perfectly. The tricky part will be hand filing the cogs. Then of course I need to get a cool looking digital watch with a face exactly 1.5" across to put underneath the lens.

I have a cool idea for painting the main body so that it's not just a flat blue, to give it some more detail. Not sure if it'll work, so I'll test it out first. All I've done so far is wet sand one end of the aluminum rod to a smooth finish. I'll probably finish the job later tonight and maybe do the copper pipe as well. I'll post some pics once I get there.

Cool, I was going to paint the main body blue like older Mitsubishi's (Only they are green), where is has like sparkles of silver and different shades of blue in it.

It's not PERFECT, but the medium wheel could definitely be worked I think. it might be a little bit too big still, but who knows. I guess somebody else could scale up their Glitch, especially if they're more Enzo's build than Bob's.

WOW, I had totally forgotten about this show, thanks for bringing back memories! Cant wait to see progress!

You could probably find that "gear" piece off of a child's toy. I know I've seen some with pieces like that, I just can't think of one off the top of my head.

I never realized how important photoshop is in my daily life. I can't scale down my photos to upload them until I can find the install disc.

Also, I just bought the pocket watch lens, now it just has to ship from Germany.
