GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

The handful of reviews of this flick are all leaning far one way or the other.

Whatever happens, some sources will be losing credibility when the smoke clears.

I just checked out a little of the permier.

Part of me died a little
Seeing all those kids and all those parents in the 'ghostbusters corner' jsut makes me wonder, why do these people deserve your support?

they don't love ghostbusters. it's another man bashing movie. it's not a comedy. their childish behavior on social media and talk shows is beyond supportable..

what is there to stand and cheer in that line for?
it just makes me sad....

I wonder if they let dan and ivan and the rest anywhere NEAR that mess?

Meanwhile it's probably a mediocre movie. Not horrible, not great. Good enough for the champions to say "see! It did have good moments!" But still bad enough for the naysayers to point out that it could have been great and they made it ordinary.

I expected just a mediocre, studio-watered-down, forgettable movie.

But now I find myself believing the bad reviews more. If they aren't outright lying about some of their specific complaints then it does sound pretty bad.

Honestly I think Dan lost his marbles as some point over the last 20 years. I actually think the studio is having issues with not just the seats but what to make of the backlash. Obviously they probably know reboots aren't always popular but i think this backlash from all sides has them unsure of what to do as they don't want to scare off the fans but they don't want to scare off the feminists either so they're running around like chickens with their heads cut off. If nothing else this is a good lesson for folks wanting to get into PR.

You know, I wouldn't have mind a continuation with only two of the Ghostbusters coming back (especially if Bill Murry is completely opposed to it and since Harold Ramis passed away). Extreme Ghostbusters did it with having Egon being in charge of a younger group. What's not the say that they couldn't do the same with the film? Have Winston move up as being the man in charge of the Ghostbusters HQ while Ray works on the equipment and teachers the young Ghostbusters how to do the job (even doing performance reviews with the members in hopes to improve their skills and abilities at becoming excellent Ghostbusters). They could have it explain that Peter has made millions on the franchise rights and has completely retired and Egon passed away years ago (but they have a dedication plaque for him at the entrance to the HQ. And Janine could still be there, still complaining about the poor amount of pay for answering phones (or, they could have her and Lewis married and relocated to a small suburbs out of the city). I even imagined that one of the younger Ghostbusters be Oscar from the second film, now all grown up and being a Ghostbuster against Dana's wishes.

And, of course, being someone who has done fan fiction, I actually came up with an idea for a story for the third film, which would have involved the time travel aspect that had been originally created by Dan Aykroyd for the original version of the film (basically, having some sort of experiment going on at the GBHQ and something in the past is changed, completely wiping out all of mankind after a certain date, but the experiment leaving the HQ and those within it still intact. The Ghostbusters have to go through these doorways in time to end up in certain time periods, leaving them to capture certain ghosts and stop whatever demonic creature from succeeding in its plan on wiping out humanity, in hopes that they can restore the timeline back to how it was. (Yeah, I know, it sounds lame).

Sony has been caught in that trap all year. It's been a no-win for them ever since it became clear what Feig was doing. By that time they were too far in with him to pull out.

Watch for the press narrative being shifted now. They will spend a week or so blaming the "angry nerds" for driving away the box office. That idea won't hold water very long. Eventually they will move to: "Okay, it sucks. The angry nerds called it right, but for the wrong sexist reasons."

Sony will put on a good face and back up Paul Feig for now.
But once the attention dies down I bet they won't roll the dice on him again. Not for another expensive or kid-rated show like this.

I bet they won't. i bet they'll stick it out to the bitter end, and do the same on the next one cause it worked so well here.

My guess is 99.9 of those super fans just LOVED the movie and it was probably better than sex. those guys have it because they love the movie, right mellisa?

smh

What is that pose that Feig always does when a camera is around? Is it "Yep... its all my fault" or "I dont give a S$#@.... I got paid a butt load anyway" or perhaps its just "Smug much?...You bet your Arse I am".

I would love to know the dynamics of the relationship between himself and his Mother and Father, I imagine someone loved their mum... a little too much.

Wow, talk about the bare minimum star power for the premiere. No Bill Murry....but we have Chris Katan! Pascal looks like she just got out of prison. Nice to see Ackroid hawking his vodka line....and they call him crazy?

Im waiting for the first review to say, "Its something strange, and it don't look good....."

Father abandoned them, he is a self described ninny. Said he liked hanging out with the girls more than boys growing up because the boys would beat him up. His words from a Variety article IIRC.
