So, we pretty much still have no clear statement that this is happening, only a lot of statements that they'd really LIKE it to happen, and Bill Murray is still NOT on board?

Yeah, this thread still needs a title change.

I think making another Ghostbusters with an all new cast with cameos by the originals is the only thing that would work.
A younger group picks up where the former left off, with a little old school mentoring. A reboot would not be good, and the original cast isn't getting any younger.

I'd love to see this whole Bill not doing it a giant hoax and he will actually be in the movie. Pipe dream I know...

If they could pull something like that off...wow. That would be awesome. Maybe someday, a worthwhile script will be put together while the cast is still alive. Going the franchise route with cameos by the original cast seems the only way to go right now.

I love both Ghostbusters movies. But is it a crime to want more? I would love to see the next generation take on this classic. Of course there will never be another Bill Murray, but I just want more proton packs and comedy.

I love the idea of Venkman as a ghost. He could be like Nearly Headless Nick for the new Ghostbusters.

Maybe Ray and Egon could "consult" on matters regarding the proton packs and the containment system.

I feel the same way about this as I do a Blade Runner prequel/sequel.
The potential reward far outweighs the risk.

Go for it!

Ray Parker Jr. gotta eat!

Just do an all CGI flick and use the originall cast voices, that way they could be as young or old as you want and it would be less involved so you would be more likely to get Bill Murray on board. I personally don't want a new group of younger busters in either a sequel or a reboot. Part of what was great about the original two movies was the chemistry of the cast. They really seemed to have been friends forever and honestly they probably (in the case of Ackroyd,Murray, and Ramis) were. My friends and I talk about this quite a bit, as we are huge fans. and it's true, we have come up with several "dream" casts, but once we rewatch the original movie again, they just all fall apart and we have come to the realization that no one can play these parts, but the men who originated them. Seriously, who could play Stantz, Spengler, Venkman, and Zeddemore but the men who brought them to life in the first place? I would rather have another cartoon series based on the IDW comic that is out now than a crappy reboot with some "hip" new comedians. No offense to the Apatow crowd, but they are not it. As much as I would love to see a new Ghostbusters film, if it's going to be a reboot or a remake, just keep it. Or to milk the original for a little more cash post convert it to 3D, at least that way you could introduce a whole new generation to the original on the big screen.

I don't think it's a crime to want more, but that sense of wanting more is frequently a contributory cause of a lousy sequel. See, studios get lazy, and they see rabid demand from the fans as a license to just make any old crappy film. Then they do, and fans get bitter about it or you see a split in the fan community with some saying "I don't care, I just want to see the costumes on the big screen again" and others saying "It's a INSULT to one of the GREATEST MOVIES of 1984!!!!11!!" or whathaveyou.

I'd think, by this point, we've seen enough franchises that are only too happy to give us "more" ending up disappointing a significant portion of fans to learn that "more" does not equal "better." If you order more steak, and 7 times out of 10 they bring you a plate full of gristle...would you keep ordering?

I'm hoping some talented people can come together and make a great movie as well as some money for the studio. Not all remakes and sequels are bad. Some of the best movies out there are remakes and sequels.

All true, and I hope for it as well. I just don't really see that happening with this.

If you get a chance and haven't yet done so, though, check out the Ghostbusters game on Xbox. It actually was a lot of fun.

I heard some rumors about GB3 offline and was kind of suprised. I have GB but have never even seen GB2, by all accounts from friends and family it was a train wreck so I never bothered with it. Now I have a 10 yr old that loves the original, so mabey I should give GB2 a peek. As far as GB3, I like the idea of the original cast as ghosts that are sort of advising the next generation of Busters, the concept has potential, but who ever plays the new guys need to be top notch. I could see Owen Wilson as one of them.

GB2 isn't a train-wreck so much as it is a too-aware almost-remake of the first film. It's fun, but it's a bit more kid-oriented, a bit less of an edge to it, and a LOT more focused on slime.

Ghostbusters as ghosts advising a new team to me seems way beyond cheesy. I also hope we don't get some "Extreme Ghostbusters" style film. That show is crappy.

The Real Ghostbusters cartoon was actually pretty fricken good.

Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan could possibly work as new members, but the other choices I just don't see it.

I'll give it a shot, if it's more kid oriented then mabey my daughter will enjoy it. Thanks Solo.

It's kid oriented in terms of the slime and some of the vibe of the piece. It's a remake-ish film in that the trajectory for the characters is basically identical to the first.

Sorry, rogen is a deal-breaker...

As for some of the best movies be re-makes, that's true, but usually the best remakes are of lesser known movies - not huge successes.

What's the last remake of a big hit that was a success and worth the effort?
