Jesse Eisenberg - (Zombieland)
Tyler Labine - (Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil)
Alan Tudyk - (Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, Firefly)
Nathan Fillion - (Firefly)

Professor Plum, with the lead pipe, in the library.

Bear in mind that both of the two articles cited above essentially refer back to the same Deadline post, which includes one (1) mention of keeping Ivan Reitman's schedule free for him to make a Ghostbusters film. The rest is pure speculation. So, yeah, the guy's got an apparently clear schedule. Doesn't mean the film will start shooting in 2013 or get made at all, wishful thinking to the contrary notwithstanding.

My skepticism and eyerolling at the continual "ZOMG!!! IT'S HAPPENING" quality of these news articles which, really, don't have anything SUBSTANTIVE to offer other than Dan Akyroyd's pontifications aside....at this point, I'd say it actually makes more sense to just reboot the franchise, say Venkman died or quit or went into seclusion, maybe give Murray a cameo, and otherwise just move on IF they're gonna do anything with this property.

I also wonder if this isn't being driven by some rights-reversion/expiration thing maybe. Like, why now? Why wait until now after screwing around with this for so long?

Side note:

After reading this discussion again, I went and fired up the X360 Ghostbusters game again and honestly, if you're a fan and haven't played it...go. Go buy it NOW. It's a LOT of fun. Probably even more fun playing online missions with friends. Seriously, it captures the feel of the films and sticks you in the middle of it. AND you get Bill Murray doing v/o work, too, so none of that "Venkman's a ghost/recluse/hiking-in-the-Himalayas" nonsense.

I'm so tired of false alarms with this movie, at this point I'm going to stop reading anything unless it's an official statement from the studio.

Is Venkman the father of Dana's son, Oscar?

If they do indeed proceed with a new younger cast, I bet Oscar would be one of the characters.

No. Oscar is actually the son of Dana's ex-husband (apparently, between GB 1 and GB 2, Dana eventually left Peter and married and had Oscar). That's the reason why Peter refers to himself as "Uncle Pete" during one of the scenes with Oscar.

I agree, Oscar should be involved in the cast. By having him getting involved with the GB as a job, Dana would end up coming around to the firehouse and bringing her back into Peter's life again for their on-again/off-again relationship.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they mention that she ended up marrying that musician/composer she was hanging around in the first film, the same guy you briefly see Peter teasing about being "pale".

Oh, I think we can solve that easily enough...

PETER: "Dana never told you what happened to your father."

OSCAR: "She told me enough! She told me you slimed him."

PETER: "No. I am your father."

OSCAR: "No.......that's not true! That's impossible!!"

PETER: "Search your feelings. You know it to be true!"

OSCAR: "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!"

Wow, posponed?! Now that's a big surprise that I did not see coming!

Re: Ghostbusters 3

The story is reporting on a post from "superofficialnews.com."

You know, a name like that just screams "trustworthy." So, I'm gonna hold off on "celebrating" until, say, AP or even The Hollywood Reporter breaks the story. And, preferably, by actually confirming it themselves with Ramis and Murray.

--EDIT--

1.) If you click on "Home" it's pretty clear that the site is aptly named. It is not to be taken seriously at all, as evidenced by a "Super Official Breaking News" story featuring Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney going on a vacation to the Bahamas together, and being photographed kissing in a lagoon.

2.) Folks, this is why the news media SUCKS nowadays. Unless The Toronto Sun is also a joke news site, whoever reported this story should lose their job. They have no business working in journalism.

3.) Once again, we have a BS story about Ghostbusters 3. You'd think folks would notice a pattern by now. Anyway, let me know if anyone's interested in this sweet deal I'm offering on the Brooklyn Bridge.
