Ghost Trap Pedal Question

So, here's one.. How DO you get the wire from the trap, through the pedal connectors, and into the little plunger thing in the middle? The plunger should be easy enough. Drill a hole big enough through either the bottom, or top and side and run a small switch through.

but when I tried to drill a hole through the trap connectors, I not only didn't get it through, but I think I broke it in the process. IT took a sledge hammer to get it on.

any ideas?
