FS SS Minnow

The ad says it sleeps 5. There were 7 castaways. That means some people shared bunks. Obviously the Howells would, so that eliminates them and leaves 4 bunks left but 5 people. Hmmm.

...You forgot...

Skipper and Gilligan were fighting the wheel during the storm, theres your extra two people.
Thats a great looking boat, my dad would love it.

That boat looks surprisingly modern for something as old as I am :D

This is the first time I've seen the SS Minnow in colour... :eek

Oh I have 2 explainations for the lack of a bunk.

1) The ship's crew quarters or bunks are usually not included as official sleeping space. For example when you say how many people a boat can take you say 5 passengers and 2 crew, not 7 people.

2) Both the skipper and the 1st mate can not be asleep at the same time. One has to be at the wheel.

Best question is "why a rebuilt engine? It only had 3 hours on it." :lol[/b]
Is that how long the boat was used in total for the pilot episode?

Maybe its been sitting idle for a long time and the engine rusted away? Or its no longer in compliance with modern laws and standards? If nothing else the wiring has to be in pretty bad shape by now...

The first episode of Gilligan's Island begins with the Minnow already washed up on the beach. Gilligan, the Skipper, Ginger, the Professor, and Mary-Ann can be seen sleeping out on the open deck. Seems as if the Howells and their luggage took over all five of the inside bunks. :lol

(Actually, the opening shot of the castaways sleeping on deck comes from the pilot. In the pilot, instead of Ginger, the Professor, and Mary-Ann, there were two different female characters and one male. If you look carefully at that opening shot in the first episode, you can see that it's not Tina Marie, Russell Johnson, and Dawn Wells sleeping on deck.)

You guys can come up with all the "rational" explanations you want, but in my version Mary Ann and Ginger shared a bunk. :p

I don't think the Howell's would have shared a bunk. Remember in their hut on the island they had seperate bunks. Wasn't proper in the 60's to have a married couple sleep in the same bed on TV. Besides, Mr. Howell slept with his teddy bear.
