Flynn Rider Completed! Studio pics with Rapunzel pg 5!

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

... I'm thinking I'm going to have to convince the bf to let me fill in his eyebrows since Flynn's are like fuzzy caterpillars. What about you?

I'll be filling them in quite a bit. I haven't figured out all what I'll be doing, but I'll try to make my face look like his (although I'm stickin' with my own nose :) )

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

Your work is awesome! I've had the stuff to make my Flynn vest forever, but I got it on clearance at a local fabric store that went out of buisness and can't find anymore to save my life, slightly scared to cut into it :p Not too mention that all the tiny peices being sewn together for the vest freaked me out (didnt really think about making it out of one peice and 'faking' the segments). Looking forward to seeing the completed costume!

Zlurpo did his vest in pieces, I did mine as a solid piece, so you've got some comparison!

The looks of it on screen vary... most of the time it looks like separate paneling, when he's stabbed, you can see top stitching though. Very strange!

See here for it actually looking like both at the same time.

So either way is correct!

Zlurpo...WHERE ARE YOU! I want to see MOAR!!! Are you all done and waiting to debut for Halloween!?

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

I am a former WDW employee and that looks OUTSTANDING. Love the attention to detail man. Great work on the buckles and the vest in general! Looking forward to the final reveal.

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

aelynn000, from what I could tell on your build, we made our vests almost the exact same way, except fort the material type. What were you saying we did differently?
I'm not hiding anything :) I just haven't done much new for a bit. I need to make the pants and modify a shirt, and then just some small detail work (detail on the hip pouch, belt). I'll be getting to it probably next week, maybe some this weekend.

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

Oh jeez. Sorry!! You're right. I was thinking of another Flynn I'm friends with ( he's on here, though doesn't have a Flynn thread... SithsPadawan ) who made his by paneling ( sewing multiple strips together as opposed to top stitching ). See! You disappear for weeks and I forget the details of your build!

I thought of making the pants for mine, but there are NO linens even close to what I need at Fabricland...which, with a name like that, you think they'd have EVERYTHING. Nope. I think we might need to make a trip to Goodwill and get our hands dirty with some dye. Ughh...

So excited to see pics of yours all done!! I hope everything goes smoothly for you while you're in the home stretch!!

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

I'm in a sewing class, and a girl in there got some fabric from walmart that looks pretty much perfect. Throwing together simple pants like that shouldn't take too long.
Also, looking at the guys at Disneyland... I could be wrong, but they look like they're wearing sweatpants. So there's another option.

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

cant wait to see it all together, you've done some fantastic work

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

bro, this is excellent work. i've been scouring online, and yours is the best by far. is your pattern for sale? i'm way behind for this halloween, but am trying to get ahead for next year.

one more thing- who did you buy your leather from, and do they have a website?

again, excellent work, dude.

I TOTALLY always thought the Face Characters looked like they were wearing sweatpants! LOL

I HATE sweatpants out in public though. Especially with a 'leather' vest!!! I wanted linen but nothing in the colour around here... might wear some dressy/casual trousers in an olivey brown that he has lying around... =\

SO EXCITED TO SEE COMPLETED PHOTOS OF YOURS! WOOoOOOOoOOo

I didn't use a pattern--I got some cheap felt and started measuring myself and cutting the cloth, and made it up as I went! Unfortunately the felt pattern was destroyed when I cut it up to match it to the leather!

I got my leather from Oregon Leather Co. They were very helpful. I called one of the locations (I don't remember if it was Oregon or Portland) and described what I needed. The person there found what she thought would be the best, then took down my address and sent me a small cutting of the leather as a free sample so I could see if it was what I wanted. Good prices too, I highly recommend them!

So if you were to break it down, how many pieces did you end up using? I guess I need to talk with a seamstress for assistance. Thanks for the info on the company.

BTW, I saw some alternative boots for sale online that you might check out.

Amazon.com: 121-JACK, Men's Rustic Brown or Black Pirate Costume Boots by Ellie Shoes: Shoes

I also saw someone post about how they retrofitted these pretty effectively.

If you have done Flynn, I have a boot question! - Cosplay.com

9 main pieces, each are a different color in the attached pic. There is also some piping between the sleeves, as well as on the collar. But 9 main panels.

I've already finished my boots, but thanks for the heads up!

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

hey, I checked out the leather supplier. Great selection... do you remember if you went with the cabretta lambskin (baby blue or jade) or the cowhide plonge (teal or turqoise)? Main things I'm wondering are which of the colors suits my pallet, and whether the cowhide plonge will be stiff enough if I go with that one. Need to give 'em a call I suppose!

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

Wow! Thanks a lot brother! That's totally helpful.

One more question- you make you leather accoutreme from scratch or retrofit pre-existing stuff?

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

thirdofeight, I think I went with the cowhide plonge, but I'm not sure since I didn't buy it using the online store. Someone there picked it out for me when I called them. However, I believe it is cowhide, not sheepskin.
And I made this from scratch. The first page of this thread shows some of the details. I just looked at a lot of different angles of the vest and went to work. Lots of detail shots in one spot here.

Re: Halloween- Flynn Rider from Tangled (Boots post 74)

Pants! Gray sweatpants dyed tan, with a seam added to the outside.
Super easy!
