:D Ok guys, here are my first two props that i have ever painted and built, well the TD was a doopy doos kit,and the blaster a Hasbro Han.

Had a bit of a tough time with the blaster paintjob, and i know its well rough, blotchy and off but seeing as though it was a toy blaster i thought id leave it as is.I intend on purchasing some resin kits from DD soon, and im hoping that ive learnt a few lessons now.The TD cost £10,and i used bits and pieces from everywhere to add little touches here and there.I went for the battle damaged look.

Anyway,i know they aint 100% accurate props, but hopefully in a few years i can look back on them and know where i started from.

Good job! That is a really smart way to practice. I am always hesitant to buy some of the amazing kits offered here because I don't want to ruin it with my lack of painting skills but this may be the perfect way for me to practice. So I may be following in your footsteps. :)

They look great. :)

Keep in mind that NONE of us were born with the sum of human knowledge. For everything, there is a first time. We were ALL newbies once. ;)

Everybody has to start somewhere. Those grips would look a lot better if you give them a dark brown wash. Just thin the paint until it is watery and slosh it on. Then wipe it off with a paper towel or cloth so that some of the paint remains in the recesses of the grips.

You have a fine start for beginning and we all have to start somewhere.
I think you are ready to consider spray paints as well as gloss and matte clear coats as they are needed.

Nice start - the Rubies toy is a great starter, and is cheap enough that it doesn't matter too much if you make a mistake. As to the grips, I slap a thinned matt black over dark red-brown and wipe it off after a few minutes, leaving the grooves nice and dirty.

for a first paint job, this is uber fantastic! I especially love the weathering job - and that black looks spot on!

Remember to try not to invest yourself too much - this is supposed to be fun! I tend to get really upset when I screw up, and I have to remind myself that this whole thing is a learning process, and a hobby. You have some decent talent my friend!

I don't know what a Doopy Doo is, but I like the painting job you did there.

Lord, help me NOT buy props here. I keep telling myself do NOT buy prop blasters and sabers. And the other voice tells me to ask how much, and start hanging some props on my walls. No! Yes! Nooo! I will do it NOT! :devil

lol doopy doos is a place to get high quality resin cast parts. I'm not too sure if they're a company or not, but they're def not recasters. So, that's a plus lol

Very good first try, as others mentioned, the wood handle is too shiny and needs to be dulled down (mat paint will do) and also that wash Clutch talked about. Apart from that, you did a good job on the "used look" of the weapon and that's a + for the overall effect. Keep on practising:)
