Serenity Ship Papers

does any one have good scans of the qmx Serenity Ship Papers?

these have been sold out from qmx for along time now so copys of these wont take money from them.

please

Does anyone have the cortext bulletin that badge had in the episode "serenity"? I've been looking everywhere.

That would be a great prop to have, especially of someone could make it work.

Great thread! I have Wash's Ariel ID badge here:

Does anyone have an image of Simon's ID badge? I could have sworn he was wearing one during the scene where he was using the defibrillators on that patient, but I can't find any reference to it anywhere. :confused

Does anyone have a good pic of Inara? I'm putting together a footlocker for mal and it just seems like something he would keep in there (where only he could see it) tried a search but didn't find anything useful.

Does anyone have the graphics for the Telofonix phone card Jayne uses in Ariel? Also, if anyone has the graphics for the round tall cards that would be awesome.

I know Whitefall offered them both as replicas ,years ago, but by the time I found out about it, he had went to work for QMx, and was no longer offering them.

HELP! I know nothing about Chinese characters/text. I'm trying to do some firefly paper props, but I can't make head nor tails of this stuff.

I've pored over translation web sites, but when I enter something like "alliance" to try the sites out, what I get looks nothing like the characters I see on the patches, etc. in the show. I've tried "simple form" and "traditional".

Can someone please let me know what I'm doing wrong, and/or point me to a site where I can type in what I want it to say in English, and have it translated (for free) in to the right kind of chinese characters?

Well, you could try this:

Yahoo! Babel Fish - Text Translation and Web Page Translation

Unfortunately translating between English and Chinese is a bit of an art form, so even if that correctly translates something, it still might not be what they used in Firefox/Serenity (in fact, I'm not even sure if they got it right all the time).

Another alternative would be to post a picture of whatever you are trying to replicate and I'm sure someone could type it out for you.

EDIT: "Alliance", incidentally, is "同盟" (I realise there are many other things you need translating).

Well, ok, I've dug threw a lot of old threads, trying to find an answer, and saw that I have asked this question before, but all the sites those threads lead me to, didn't really get me what I need.

In my searching of the web yesterday, I kept coming across "Babble fish" but when I enter Alliance, I get "联盟" ("simple" form) or "聯盟" ("traditional " form) but "同盟" is what you see one the patches signs etc. in the show.

One of the things I'm working on, is a Fruity Oaty bar wrapper. There have been very nice free paper prop versions offered, by other fans, including one that was posted on fireflyprops.net, a few days ago, but none of them are quite accurate enough for me. (well, except for that one that used to be sold on ebay 4 or 5 years ago, but those aren't around any more.)

I found it surprisingly easy, to do most of the graphics and stuff, and it's almost ready to go. All I want to do is add ingredients, and other text to the back of the wrapper, to make it look more "real" then most of the replicas that are out there now. (I'm not claiming I'm the first to think of this, or even do it, I just can't find any replicas out there this detailed, at this time.)

I would love to have something like "Babble fish" that is accurate to firefly. So I can just type in what I find on the back of a real fruit and oat bar, and have it all translated into Chinese characters. That way I can have both on my wrapper. (or just the chinese, or a mix of both English, and chinese, in true firefly style. I haven't decided yet.) I plan on doing a number of variations. (mostly because I can mnever make up my mind, and I like playing in photoshop. :lol)

I might just go with "Babble fish". I just knew it translated Blue sun, and alliance, wrong for me, and I didn't want to go through all the work of translating, a bunch of text, and putting it all over my wrapper, and posting it, only to find that it was all wrong. But hey this is just for fun anyway's, right? It's not like I'm going to try to sell these in stores, so it's not like the FDA can get all over me, if it says "Apples, strawberries, blueberries. etc." In English, and in (my) chinese it says "nuclear bang pow". :lol

Much of the print used in the original series is gibberish. Even some of the film Chinese characters are wrong. This has been admitted by artists working on both Firefly and Serenity, where Chinese was used as decoration more than translation. In some instances the proper characters were used, but not many.

Your best bet is to do what I do. Surround yourself with people who speak Mandarin. I have a brother, two friends, and several colleagues that speak it fluently, so I divert to them in a pinch. Still, I have occasionally trusted the frumious Fish of Babel.

Babble Fish, like most automatic translators is kinda wonky, especially given a language as nuanced as Chinese can be. Like Yellowjacket said, your best bet is to find someone who can speak Mandarin fluently and ask them for help.

One trick I've learned though for automatic translators is to run your original translation, and then run it back into English and check/correct it for errors. It won't be perfect, Chinese has a very different grammatical structure from English, but it will get the point across.

Also, the Firefly-Serenity Chinese Pinyinary has all of the known chinese used in the show. Reading through it a few times will give you a feel for how Chinese is put together and has Chinese from the show you can cut and paste into most art and word processor programs set up for Chinese.

Here's the growler I get refilled at my local brewery with its new custom label:

It's laser printed on matte Avery adhesive-backed paper. I sprayed it with clear coat to try to give it a little durability. I can always print another if it gets damaged. (Growler is wet here because I left it outside to dry, then it started raining.)

I used a graphic posted somewhere around here as a starting point, but I can't find the post again to give proper acknowledgement.

It's been awhile, which is not to say that I haven't been busy, what with captaining Can't Stop the Serenity and helping local events. I was privileged to be apart of the CSTS LA event where I created tickets, passports and a poster (alongside Sean Kennedy and Andrew Pace) for their shindig.

This is the poster for the LA event. Of course it features the planet 'Angel'. My thanks to Sean Kennedy and my brother Andrew for the digital effects.

awesome collaboration, gentlemen! my only complaint is that you don't produce such high-quality works on a daily basis!
