Firefly - Kaylee costume

I've recently got myself setup with a Captain Mal outfit. It really isn't finished yet, but seeing me in it has inspired my girlfriend to put her own Firefly costume together. After much pondering, she's decided to go with Kaylee.

We're basing the outfit around Kaylee's green coveralls. We aren't exactly trying for perfection here, either. Just 'good enough for it to look right'.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on the web regarding costuming sources for young Miss Frye's attire. :unsure
Now, we've already found the perfect bear patch and a usable heart patch, but the blue 'bullet hole cork' flower has been problematic.

And that's about as far as we've got.
Can anyone chime in and help us out?

Getting a line on shirts, coveralls, footwear, parasols, the blue jacket worn when Kaylee met Book, and 'Kaylee-ish' doo-dads to have in hand like a cigar box of strawberries would all be very helpful.

These aren't perfect, but they are so close, I wouldn't be surprised if these are what Shawna used as her base.

Flower Patch It's not perfect, but the "Blue flower 2 Layered" works fine with scissors and a sharpie. :)

I bought a screen used shirt from the movie 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'. Kate Winslet wore Kaylees 'Objects in Space' shirt in the library scene. That's all I've found so far.

Look to be tanker boots that have an extra bit stitched onto the toe and in a 'belt' around the ankle.

Parasol Click 'Products'. They's got some shiny swag inside.

It was either here of over at Propcircle that someone had id'd the cigar box used for the strawberries. You might be able to search for it but Im not sure how to parse it.

The cigar box is a Bahia Trinidad 20 Elegante flip-top. [EDIT: see Entropy's thread links below]. I've been looking for one for a good while with no luck. Slide-top versions show up on eBay on occasion, but I haven't found a flip-top one yet. If you find any please let me know!

As for the parasol, the Firefly Cargo Bay used to offer "Kaylee-esque" ones for $20.

Thanks for the prop links, guys.

We're planning to go to the Creation salute to Firefly and Serenity Con in November. I was DYING to go to my first Dragon*Con this year, but her schedule won't allow it.

I'm going to update the first post here with links to what I've found for costuming so far when I get a minute or ten.
I'm still not getting very far as yet.

A couple of pieces of info that might help:

The shirt in the picture above is the same pattern, neckline and fit as the Kaylee shirt, but the wrong color.
So, I'm assuming its the same Brand.
The tag inside says, "museum" with the letters looking like Egyptian columns.
The care tag reads,
RN#86976
90% polyester
10% spandex
hand wash cold
lay flat to dry
made in USA

The Trinidad Bahia cigar box started out BRIGHT-BRIGHT-BRIGHT orange.
I stripped it, sanded it, stained it Early American and polyurethaned it semi-gloss.
I see the bright orange ones on eBay quite a bit, or at least, I did when I was looking for one.
The inside is unpainted, and has the Trinidad Bahia stamped in it, just like the screen used.

The fake strawberries are from eBay also.
I remember having terrible luck finding them, 'til I hit on the right search words.
And sorry, I forget what worked.
(But I probably thought of the most obvious choice, last.)

I bought the necklace a couple of years ago, but the last time I checked the vendor, she didn't carry them any more.
Shame, cuz it's as close to perfect as I think you could get.

The patches are from eBay.

I'm making a Kaylee costume for my daughter to go with our Firefly group. The shirt I am using, while not perfect, is pretty good. The seller on ebay is AlohaVintage. They have several shirts that "will do" and are reasonably priced.

Yeah, pretty much we're down now to the shirt, the cigar box, and the blue oriental coat.

Mike, could you maybe post a pic of the shirt tag?
Sound silly I know, but there might be something there I can use.

Here is a shot of the shirt tag and the necklace.

Far as the coveralls, they aren't screen accurate.
The pair I have are button front and Kaylee's are closed with a metal zipper.
Also, Kaylee's coveralls had a left-breast pocket that my pair lacks.
Finally, there aren't any identifying tags left in them, so I don't know what they were originally.

I was gonna but noticed my bank account was on the skinny side. Good catch.

Guess I'll have to hit up some of the cigar places on the odd chance they might have one.

Just keep searching eBay with the search words

These things come up on a fairly regular basis.
You just need to align your cash flow to your searches!
