Yeah what happened there NHM, you were great at showing your progress pics then.... poof..

Would love to see more..
[/b]
Well, I only showed progress pics when progress had been made... nothing new to show at this time, sorry. :cry

I hope you saw that as "positive pressure" and not anything unfriendly.

Just wanted to tug your chain a bit. We all love the work you've done thus far and are just excited, that's all

:)

I'm sorry to say that I have reached the time where updates will be far apart, as this is the costly and slow part of things. Wish this wasn't the case and wish I could get it done by tomorrow, but sadly that is not possible. :cry

Hope you'll bear with me just a little while longer... :unsure

It's too bad I didn't see this thread earlier; I'm working on my own Mal at the moment.

You've done a very good job on the figure, especially for your first time. While it's too late to be of use on this sculpt, here are a few pieces of advice I have for your next project. When starting a figure, it's good to rough out a nude body before adding the clothes. While your figure appears to have good anatomy, seeing everything from the start makes it much easier to sculpt in the long run. If you don't like Sculpey, try Super Sculpey Firm. It comes in a neutral grey color that's easy to work with, and holds detail much better than regular Sculpey. Overall a great sculpting material, it's what I'm using for my figure.

Best of luck completing your project, I'm interested in seeing what the final product will look like.

You have to show us what you are doing with your Mal (in your own thread, though). :thumbsup

Well, yeah... many lessons learned on this figure... corrected some of them for the next figure, but still haven't started working with wire-frame interior yet - so far only clay interior. Have been using Super Sculpey from a sample pack, as I haven't been able to afford much else... but thanks for the advise.

One bad think is that this figure is really brittle... I fear I'll only have one chance of making a good mold off of it... it's really weird... :cry

Money...tut, it's always there to scupper plans. :( .... in my day we'd take a fat pig t' market an barter.... (I aint that old :p )

Well you seem to have a lot of interest in the model (6,380 views :confused), so why dont you offer up a free kit once done to whoever donates to the cause to get the kit finished.
It could be that they send on the rubber, resin even money. I know you can't offer them a guarantee on the piece, because as you say its brittle, but if they want it enough i'm sure someone will take the gamble. :)

I feel for you and your struggle (not enough to offer though :lol).

So what do you say lads\lasses?... Would you front NoHumorMan should he wish to try this route?. :thumbsup

NoHumorMan, if this post offends in anyway please tell me to remove it...

Actually... it doesn't offend, a bit odd though and tbh; I see no reason to make such a request. If they were patient this long, then surely they'll be patient for a little while longer... if not... no big loss.

Would also feel uncomfortable accepting money for a no-guarantee of success project - no, this has to rest on my shoulders until it is fully completed. :thumbsup

I don't know about odd, I was looking at it as a way for you to complete this project and get it out there.
I totally understand where your coming from, in wanting to do it off your own back with no obligations to anyone though.

Oh, and I use to many smilies.

Well... I got the money... but I'm not quite sure I got the money... if that makes sense... running on a tight budget here and it would be stupid to sink it all, by not having thought it through completely. Also, it is not so much about obligations to others... heck... I kinda feel that already from the interest shown... it's more the fact that it would just feel wrong to me to take someone's money without having a finished product to show for it - too much of a gamble imo to put on someone else, without guarantee that anything will ever come out of their investment: would feel like stealing, imo.

Or am I just weird. :confused

Nah, that's quite noble and truthfully very smart of you.

I just think some of us are really, really excited about this piece. There's nothing like it, to my knowledge, and we're all just enthusiastic about its completion.

You take your time - be happy with the process AND the result. Ultimately this is a hobby and for you this should be fun.

WOW MinasTirithGuard cant wait to see your progress also. Looks like a bit of competion here. It'll be nice to finally have a Mal figure for my collection. Something to go with the Serenity model. Good luck to both of you.
Now, back to the clay ou two...

George :D

Seems I spend far more time on repairing cracks than actually getting this finished... damn super sculpey sample pack. Oh well. I'm 99% finished, having added the buttons and gun holster strap, but because of cracking I will have to rework the upper part of the back of his coat. Oh well... hopefully some luck will float my way soon. :confused

Latest update. All detail work finished on the front. Only minor fixing needed on the back, but I can now call it finished... :thumbsup

The right arm is a separate piece. I tried to put the head on the figure, but since the neck was too long and wasn't fitted to the body sculpt at all, it just looked weird, but the head is finished as well. Now I just gotta get me some money, so I can make those molds.
