Fifth Element: Korben Dallas blaster (mostly metal)

Since I'm only ever going to make one, I'm going to go with accurate.

I made the final small machined piece, and I cut the slide away from the gun. I left the part at the front for mechanical reasons. I also included the last prototype printed frame in the picture. The Shapeways parts are possibly on their way ahead of schedule, I've got a lot to do before they get here.

The Shapeways parts came in. I sanded the swoops off the side of the gun because they were messing up the fit of the wings, and unfortunately it looks like I missed completely covering them up by about 1 mm. I'm thinking of tweaking the model and ordering a replacement. If anybody is interested in taking this one off my hands, send me a message. I'm still debating it. I could always sand the transition on the gun smooth and deal with it, but I feel like I'll always see it.

Anyway, things are coming together nicely. I can use these parts for now to model and test fit the bottom piece of the frame. I also still have a good amount of work to do on the slide and trigger mechanisms. This thing feels really cool, though. Heavy, but not unwieldy.
