EP VII Millennium Falcon

I love carpet.

I thought the new falcon set was pretty much built and stored now, but there's lots being constructed for those mandibles.
Is it just that those faces haven't needed to be seen?

Seriously is this thing there right now?
So exciting.

I don't quite get why they couldn't make replica grates. Of all the things to recreate, that seems like a simpler task, and it's one of the more obvious differences. Seems like it was a choice and not a necessity.

I imagine they'd have to 3D print them. Would such be strong enough to walk on?

GREAT IMAGES! Interesting how we can see the same cockpit style door leading to Han's "make out" room. ;)

Which now seems to be a gun closet.

It just blows my mind how well they match the original Falcon interior. There are some differences, but honestly when your watching the movie (not the props and sets) you really believe it's the same ship. I give them a lot of credit for going to the trouble to match it so closely, even if the odd detail isn't perfect. It has been almost 40 years...

I would think CNC machine.

Depending on the material, my guess would be to use a water jet. It makes quicker work of something like a sheet goods and some cut impressive thicknesses. Production budget wise may be the reason they didn't, when weighing costs of manufacturing floor vs using something really close but in commercial circulation, since of course the falcon budget was only one small budget inside a much bigger one.

I wonder what they'll do for the DisneyWorld Falcons?

love these new photos, takes me right back to the first aerial leaks from TFA and how mind-blowing it was to see the falcon just hanging out somewhere.

my eye is really drawn to the open hatch on the port docking ring box. Kind of hoping that means we'll see the Lando rescue hatch in action. Maybe have a few scenes set on the plating of the falcon. I would love to see a tracking shot with two people arguing while walking from one part of the Falcon's topside to another. Or... y'know dueling up there... a guy can dream.

One could easily reason it's been 30 years and they redid them for whatever reason. It's like saying why did ESB bother to add the two maintenance
pits that weren't there in ANH, if they wanted Han working on the Falcon in the floor he could have just pulled one of the squares up.

I mean they made it close, but any differences could be attributed to it being 30 years later in the story. Remember ESB Falcon had several differences with the ANH one, and that was just set 3 years apart.

is this a fallout shelter?!

If I had had a bunker like this I'd have been ready for that "look at the pretty lights, George" moment :D But I think it was for a catalogue or hotel advert.

It does make me wonder.... What if Gerry and Sylvia were looking over the Falcon's interior design?

Spot some more 70s influence lol

Of course these images are cool on the first view... but:

I am a SW fan since I was a kid (born 1977). I am loving the movies and the myths about the original sets only known from the old pics and books and what it all meant to create this fantastic stuff from vision (these days and today). And of course I was dreaming of walking through the old sets. And I guess it must be crazy awesome to stand in front of such a ship to feel the impression of having s.th. that unreal in front of yourself in reality.

But with sucking up all those infos about the falcon since years you can see again that only we nerds are about these details... Even the filming guys are interpretating this ship by new in detail - knowing that there are thousands of enthusiasts knowing all details - again and again. It seems as if it would be too expensive, to build the ship as it is known from thousand images / SS models... I know that there are different versions /evolutions of the falcon due to OT creation process. But why couldn´t for example the 5 Footer been taking as areference for all upcoming displaying purposes? It is a piece of art and still existing! Everything should be possible with the budget of a Star Wars block buster production.

I am not sure if it would have been better to use CGI 5footer model with the correct dimensions instead a constructed 'wrong' 2/3 wooden monster (e.g. watch the Quad lasers, how they are constructed and put on the hull in comparison to all the models). Apart from that it seems as if it still only 2/3 of full size. As last time.

A 'full scale 1:1 falcon with all internals'-attraction for Disney world would be cool!

Ok Steve, just saw this brilliant 1950s version of the falcon on your blog.

Can't help noticing the shape of the dish. Did you have any Idea about the new dish shape coming back in 2013? Coincidence?

Moes, that all was pretty much always there, the falcon hasn't seen such bright and outdoor light in any of the other films.
