EFX X Wing Arrival, Thoughts & Pictures

I wish they would have replicated the full size cockpit set that the actors used. jvasilatos's beautiful kit looks more correct in this repsect.
Did they just put lights into the cockpit which matches the miniature instead?

For me personally, I really liked the way the Falcon had a close approximation of the full size set in the cockpit.

Going back to the X-Wing - I couldn't live with that paintjob but it's definitely better than the Y-Wing which was truly shocking!

Paint scheme has far too much contrast. The dark panels need to be toned way down. Guess I have my work cut out for me. I'm also a bit disappointed they didn't use the real parts in the engine exhausts as those are still available. They instead stick a flat disk with the same shape as the real part cut out of it......so no real fins in there. That looks toyish. Alot of the paint details, particularly the weathering look pretty cool in the closeup photos, but they still should tone it way down. I don't know, maybe with really bright bright lighting it will look better. Something has to tone it down that's for sure.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the nose issue is a trick of lighting.... The paint issues can be "fixed" with careful application of paint and good airbrush skills... even though it irks me to have to repaint a replica that costs over a grand because it's just "that off"...

Let's hope so. Profile photos of the prototype did not look as bad nosewise. Not totally accurate but able to muster some force. But I do fear they panicked and made an attempt to correct it and ended up losing it completely. I gave EFX a hard time about the nose as I saw it in that photo, but that aside....

... if the rest of the thing, once sprayed back to a flat primer coat, looks like the photo below, things are not all bad by any means. Definitely a superior hero look to the wings compared with the OOB V3 in terms of dimensions and wing positioning - and dead-parallel guns, so often problematic with GKs, plus more accurate-looking rings on the fan things on the guns.

THIS IS NOT THE SAME NOSE....!!!

I want to dig what happened ?
And in which phase and where did anyone lost that beautiful nose and replaced it with an upwards wrong one ?

Please Bryan, would you please give us an explanation if you have ?

I'm very happy I got a V3 and very fortunate Dean will do my V3 the justice it deserves.

IMHO The MR Falcon had the best factory paintjob and was way more complexe, they had set a new standard, I really hoped EFX would continue were MR left off.

Are you really sure ?

I would be glad if so.

I am not trying to harm to an upcoming product or anything...
If it's the same nose, then we all be happy but nothing else...

But if it's not the same nose, what I say; it is normal that an item goes backwards during the production phases... What did really happen ?

So, If any thoughts from EFX, again it will be very welcomed...

And for the last,
I've already bought one...!

Surely that ain't the same nose. The prototype nose - which I'd give 8 out of ten 10 in profile - has the distinctive curl-back where it hits the fuselage. That rebelscum photo has no such pronounced curve; it's more of a straight line. The proto nose profile makes the delivered production item look like a flipping inflatable x-wing by comparison.

But I'm going on just one single photo so maybe it is all a trick of the light. We'll see when more are in hand.

I have to say the X wing does look alot better in these shots , though the contrast between some of the painted panels is still a little too strong and heavy and some of the blast and scorch markings aren't too great. The overall outline still looks very good. The nose looks hugely better in these pics. Though if you compare the left and right side shots just a slight difference in angle makes them look different, less of a curve. The only way to settle this will be to do a complete dead on left/ right/top/bottom shot.

Wow, those pics tell a very different tale. That might be more or less acceptable. May have to tone down the darker panels a tad, but overall that one isn't too bad.

Dave :)
