Limited Run Droid Caller - Precision Machined Kit

Can someone confirm that I am on the right track...? To paint the body with wrinkle paint, I plan on applying the Kobold logo from the vinyl sheet. Wrap the vinyl around the body, and use a knife to score the logo, and remove the rest of the vinyl. Then paint the wrinkle paint right over the Kobold logo. Heat the paint to wrinkle it, then remove the vinyl logo.

Sounds like a snap, but the devil is in the details.

Is the is correct?

Thank you in advance.

That's what I was thinking of trying... but not having it in hand yet, I'm not sure it's a possiblity.

The idea of having it engraved seems a good idea though...

I'll take better pics tomorrow.

finished this last night.

I don't know if the paint will stick to the vinyl, is that what you were thinking?

I was thinking of leaving the Kobold logo strips on the cylinder body (apply mask completely, then removed all mask except logo strips) and paint over. Remove logo strips when paint is dry - basically use logo as mask to expose body metal through paint.

I can think of no other way of having the Kobold logo show through paint.

Thank you.

Thanks for the compliments and feedback, I really appreciate it :cheers
You guys are doing great jobs with it!

Just got mine today :) thanks again for all the hard work !

Really looking forward to putting this together.

:thumbsup

Gah... I couldn't wait... I used the vinyl to scribe it in.... thinking if it totally sucks I can repaint the can easily.

It's not perfect, but not horrid. I've used up my vinyl so if I repaint I'll need a cad file to have it properly engraved.

Looks WAY better than I thought it would. What did you use to hand scribe it?

Just an old scribe that's lost its point. And an exacto.

Its alright but I may repaint and get it engraved.

Dave do you have the file you could share?

That looks beautiful. I'm leaning towards leaving the Kobold logo off of mine entirely. I'm not a stickler for 100% accuracy, and what I really want is a replica of a droid caller, not a replica of a Kobold flash, so not having the logo wouldn't bother me much. That being said, if someone ended up offering an engraving service, I may take them up on it.

Same here. I tend to favor idealized props. I know that is a complete 180 from some collectors but in the end, you have to make yourself happy.

Ok, got it assembled except I just can't seem to figure out the timer button. :confused The are no threads in the nut for the small screw with the gap in the middle to go in, the pics shows how far it fits.
Here's a pic, what am I doing wrong? Also, i expected a set screw to fit in the side to hold it in place that there wasn't one. :confused

Back out the allen head set screw. The tighten it back down once it fits in properly. Might need to run a small file through to ensure a burr isn't blocking your path.
