DragonCon 2013

Got signed up and approved for the SCF site. I also signed up for the large Marvel group shot. Now to finish working on my suit :) (gloves, feet, and helmet to go as well as a rebuild for the shoulders and biceps) This is going to be fun :)

saw some of your pics on the scf site....how are you peping your suit?....foam or card stock?...looks like your going the foam route from the pics...

This will be the forth year in a row for my wife and I. Right now, working on all the costumes we'll be using.

My wife:
Yvaine from Stardust
Lady Comstock from Bioshock Infinite
Red Spy from TF2
The Wicked Witch of the West from Oz, the Great and Powerful

Me:
Colonel Stars and Stripes from KA2
Father Comstock from Bioshock Infinite
Demoman from TF2
Sith Acolyte from SWTOR

There will likely be a few others thrown in there, but those are the main ones.

i'm using the same files, though i'm doing card stock for then enitre suit...takes A LOT more time, but gets a lot more detail...i got about 14 more parts to glue, then i'll start fiber glassing, i already ordered my repulsors and ardunio and servos to do the face plate and eyes...might be buying another aduino for other effects...

Sweet, I did not want to mess with fiberglass is why I went the foam route. So far the only lights I have is the arc reactor, I have the leds to make the eyes light up, and I will put one in each hand for the repulers. I also want to see if I can find some orange lights for the back flaps that I'll have open, just to give them the flame appearance :). The hardest part will be making and mounting the eye lights. I want to see if I can make some small boxes to put the lights in and have it auto light up when I open and close the face plate. I also would like to motorize the face plate but I'll work on that when I finish with the lighting.

fiberglass is easy...cutting and glueing pep is the hard part...i got the arc reactor 95% done...i just got my ardunio in the mail last week, so i'm gonna start wiring that up, should be done with peping all the parts by july 1st...then i'm spending july to fiberglass and bondo, then aug will be painting, mounting and doing effects and such if i have time,....

i got 10 parts left to glue...already bought the resign and fiber glass and even a heat gun...

Excited to see a Dragon*Con thread on here.

Working on several costumes for this year with my friend.

1. Green Arrow (CW Version)
2. Heatmiser & Snowmiser
3. Humanoid from 'The Black Hole'.

And, I have a Greatest American Hero left around from last year I'll probably throw on sometime!

Actually, the Black Hole Humanoid is a repeat from last year too. Had some help from some international members right on this site! We would love to do a group of other people interested in doing the Black Hole. Anyone else out their remember this movie enough to join us? Groups always get the most attention and photos! lol. It was surprising the number of people that came up to us asking if we were in fact from that "old disney movie".

Here's our humanoid pic plus the movie poster if anyone's interested please PM me!

I am bringing:
Ruffnut (How to Train your Dragon) 80% done
Valkyrie 90% done
Irathient (Defiance) 50% done
Bene Gesserit
Effie Trinket
Silent Hill Nurse (Maybe)

Staying in the Hyatt this year, super excited to be in a main hotel, have always been in satellite hotels.

I'm going (1st year and 1st Con) Going to be in my Dawguard armor. Starting to put my Male Mechromancer costume together & starting the guns too.

My wife and I will be there! Our first DragonCon!

I have NO idea what costumes she will be wearing, and/or if I will be able to do any costumes for myself in time.

I guess I might make it official? :)

I'm bringing:

Judoon, Doctor Who
Cora Queen of Hearts, Once Upon a Time
Professor Trelawney, Harry Potter
Fauno, Pan's Labyrinth

I'll probably be in Trelawney in the evenings and I am really hoping everything goes well with the Fauno build so I can trot around on Fri/Sat afternoons. :)

Hoping to make it this year...if only for a day. Still looking for a Daredevil mask to complete my suit.

Excited to see a Dragon*Con thread on here.

Working on several costumes for this year with my friend.

1. Green Arrow (CW Version)

I'm working on the show version of Deathstroke, so hopefully we can get together! I plan on wearing it Saturday to drop by the big DC shoot for a bit.

Other costumes:
Todd Ingram from Scott Pilgrim
Red Pajama Finn from Adventure Time
a pro wrestler comic book mashup group with my friends

The SCF board is such a nightmare to navigate.

Hi, I'm the owner and administrator of The SCF :)

I really appreciate all feedback (both positive and negative), so can you please elaborate on why you feel this way? Do you mean the YUKU platform in general? Or just navigating around the site itself?

Honestly, I'm not sure how much easier I can make finding info on the big shoots :/ in the "Conventions" category we have a forum labeled "Dragon*Con Group Planning" and the Giant photo-shoots thread is "stuck" to the top of that forum. Is there something more or something else I can do?

Thanks again for your honest feedback, and please feel free to send me a PM if you'd like.

Part of it is the YUKU platform. When I first found the site, it legit took me 10-15 minutes to even figure out how to register. And keep in mind, I work in IT, being good at how to use websites is my job description. Aside from that, the site design screams "we learned our HTML skills in 1998", and it just looks dated and very unattractive. I'm sure somebody is very proud of their photoshop skills for your background, but it's a terrible background to use on a website.

Unfortunately, I can't change YUKU. We'll be looking to move to a new platform sometime after DragonCon this year.

Sorry you don't like the background on the main directory page; to each their own.

Thanks again for your feedback,

Allen

I'm going for the third time and will be bringing some repeats:
Gwen Cooper from Torchwood
Kaylee (and maybe Saffron) from Firefly
Star Wars X-Wing pilot
ST:TNG medical officer

And the new one will be a Game of Thrones Season 3 Daenerys if all goes right

I do have to say i went through the same problems, yes you might have it posted at big photo shoot and this and that, but unless your a member all of that is hidden, i only found out about the shoot from someone on the rpf forum, and they pointed me to this site....it took me 20 minute to realize i need to sign up, but what i'm signing up for isn't listed, once i was accepted i finally found all the information that was listed....

so is it simple no, is it easy to find no....once your a "member, is it easy to find yes"...

sorry nothing against anyone, just the fact that you have to jump through lots of hoops to get to something your not even sure about what your doing....

and an easier route would be making your one site, or domain...

I understand your concern, and I'm sorry it took you so long! Please accept my apologies!

The SCF is intended for adults and accordingly allows its members to well, act like adults (including cussing if they'd so like). The forums are hidden until membership is granted simply to keep any potential 10-year-old kid searching on Google from seeing his favorite superhero cussing online. (I have 3 young boys so I can personally attest this is a valid concern. I'm sure the other parents here will appreciate this.)

Clicking on any of the closed forums at The SCF will automatically pull up a pop-up application for membership (which also explains everything I've just written). So, anyone wishing to find information on the DragonCon photoshoots can come to the site, click on the DragonCon: Group Planning forum, and submit an application for membership. We usually approve memberships within 24 hours.

I advertise the Giant photoshoots every year on The SCF, The WPE and Cosplay.com, but I've never listed all that information in a thread on The RPF before. Honestly, I've never gotten the great feeling that there would be much of an interest here - but I'm glad to know that feeling was mistaken! I will change this next year and post the same info here to try and cut down on the confusion.

Until then, here's the public thread on Cosplay.com which lists all the details of the shoots: 2013 Giant Marvel & DC Universe Photoshoots - Cosplay.com

Thanks again everyone for your open and honest feedback; it's the only way I ever know how to make things better.

Allen
