Forum Judges

Rubbertoe
Greatwazoo42
RussRep

The above forum members judgements are final, and any competitors entering not following the rules, will be eliminated from this Dr Who Sonic competition.

Contest Administrator
Orange_Blend will be the RPF representitive in this contest and will administrate it. Any questions you may have he will answer.

So get your Sonic designs posted and get into the Dr Who competition for a chance to win your very own hand build design sonic.

Contest Administrator reserve the right to change or modify the rules as he see fit, to best keep it on a level playing field for all contestants. If any changes are made they will be posted here with notification posted notifying of any verification to rules or conditions.

NOTICE:
1. There has been a change to the closing date, from the 1st of September will now be the 1st of August, this was changed for the reason that it is not drawn out, and also not clash with other competitions.

2. Cyberman due to life commitments was not Abel to devote as much time as he would have liked to, so for that reason RussRep has stepped in to be the 3rd judge, I do thank Cyberman for his help, and now thank RussRep for his time.

Since I have NO IDEA what #5 of the competition rules mean, or much less how to do them, I guess I can't play! :unsure

Hey Everyone!

I've been asked to be the administrator for this contest. Rassilon has a great idea here and is being VERY generous in his prize donation. Because he has such a close stake in which sonic gets chosen and how it's made he's decided to leave the administration stuff up to me so that there can be no accusations of bias or anything like that.

SO!

We are working on possibly another prize or two as well as a few rule clarifications and then we'll get this sucker as a sticky.

Anyone already working on their entries don't worry, the contest isn't changing at all, so keep working. ;) If anyone has any questions I'm your guy! Looking forward to seeing the entries!

Very interesting idea, be good to see how creative we can be.
I am guessing you will see some extremely good designs.

Right, now I need to find my inner artist so I can enter!

I, for one, am looking forward to watching everyone's creativity come to the fore. You guys know how driven I was when I found Teletran's custom sonic designs and had one made. That sort of entusiasm and need to bring something new and different about is a constant here on the RPF.

This is going to be a good contest.

For this design, does it need to be easily CNC-machinable? Ie., no freehand sculpted parts? Is there perhaps a link to what is NOT possible with CNC?

Personally I would try and keep your designs realistic. It would be nice to say that anything goes but obviously whether it's able to actually be made will have some bearing on the first prize winner. I'll ask Rassilon if there is anything specific to watch out for.

So the official answer is design whatever you think looks best for the competition. Rassilon will work with the first place winner to make their sonic a reality, there may have to be some slight modifications to do so.

A few updates that you'll notice in the first post!

We now have three prizes all generously donated by Rassilon! Also, this contest will now be ending on AUGUST 1, 2012.

Any questions please feel free to ask! Hope to have this as a sticky soon.

damn I was contracted to work on the classic DVDs for the BBC (well 2|Entertain actually) Does that mean #9 counts me out?

I have a ton of designs already, I just have to pick one. Although I may start fresh. This contest is a great idea... very exciting.

If it's not considered too impolite, might I ask why the ending date was pull back by a whole month? Might knock some of us busy folk or slow pokes out of the running now...........

Shylaah

Edit: Nevermind, I see the first posted was edited to explain the change......
Summer is pretty busy around here, I don't think a month is enough time for me, but look forward to seeing what those who do join in come up with.

Great contest, working on an idea.

How do we submit our entries?

edit: I re-read the rules and see that we are supposed to just post them in this thread. I asked because in a previous sonic design competition entries were posted anonymously to prevent bias.

As my new screwdriver is under construction already, I will have to forgo the competition but will post a jpeg for the amusement of all.

As you are not directly an employee of a production company, and are a contractor not employed to design movie's or TV props for a business, and only handles DVD as you have indicated you may submit your design.

If on the other hand you did make props for a living and contracted to a movie or a TV production company then you would not be eligible.

Is this drawings only or can we design/build a custom and submit it?

Just drawings/renderings! Of course feel free to build what you draw but if you win first prize it gets built for you. :)

The thought was that since this is a contest for just drawings it would be alright. A pencil and paper can accompany you anywhere! I encourage everyone to give it a shot but of course understand if some think that a month is too short. In past, contests where you have to build full props have been only a month so hopefully this isn't too restricting to most members.

Previous contests have been judged by the general membership. In those cases bias was certainly a great concern. As this is a judged competition the risk of that is much lower. Rassilon as well as all of the three judges have been asked to keep their participation in the thread to a minimum to help avoid such accusations which is why I'm administrating.

If any judge or myself suspect that an entrant is trying to coerce a judge they will be removed from the contest. Don't do it folks!
