Does anyone no the REAL history/story of the Predators, and the different types?

Wow! Thats an amazing story!!! I wish they made a movie about that!!!
What, now thats just leads to more question... How long do Predators live for?? 1719- 1995? i think
 
Well, the whole 'P1 was a baby Predator' thing is a newer school of thought, when it was just P1 and P2, it was well accepted that P1 was an experienced hunter, and P2 was the new student to hunting. ...as far as Elders go, it used to be that once a Predator reaches a certain 'level' of experience and/or age, he begins leading his own pack with Elder status, as shown in P2.

When AVP came in, that's when Pandora's box opened up, personally I think that certain things can work in comics, certain things work in movies, and rarely do they work in both mediums. I think that at the end of P2 us seeing the hunter pack and their elder, as well as their trophies, it was at the very end of the movie and it was subtle. Very tastefully done.

AVP was the big turd that started rolling down a mountain of poop where whoever was making the movie just did whatever the hell they wanted. There isn't any 'standard' or particular 'frame of mind' when it comes to this franchise anymore, it's all up to who ever is working the movies. This is particularly apparent in the 'design' aspect of the franchise.

Like I said, the motor is running, but no one is steering the wheel - at this point, I'd encourage you to just believe whatever you like best. I'm all about P1 and P2, so I vastly disregard any of the new material, although I'm a big fan of WOLF Predator, and I liked the designs in AVP...in the sense that I like the MKCS garage kits by Narin...but yeah, that's about it. The movies themselves leave just about everything to be desired.
 
I did like "Predators" (thought there could have better fight scenes) but none the less good. I just didnt like they made the Berserker Predator... and i hate that bio mask!
 
One thing that P1 and P2 showed us early on is that there are different clans kinds of Predators. To me, a Predator is like an ancient tribal civilization that never died off, just kept on advancing quickly to where they're at. Every tribe is different. We all look a like [somewhat] in our features and how we look, but we have some different characteristics--and some that are similar. Some clans may be like you said Bensin, the most experienced and/or the oldest is the Elder leader. Some clans may be like pirates actually were, the toughest [and perhaps in their case], the best trophies was the leader and the elders were looked at for wisdom and guidance. Some may be like the Egyptians, were there is a bloodline that is followed for who leads the clan.

That's what is so great about this, there really is no right or wrong. There is a huge galaxy of "What if's".

That's why I don't discredit the AVP movie series...it could very well be a completely different clan of Predators. I maybe wrong, but I don't believe AVP was suppose to be a page for page identical copy of the comics. It's hard to pull off. It's like making a good movie out of a video game...hardly ever done right.

As for the "Predators" movie, I don't believe that Rob Rod made the intention of "reinventing the wheel" when he made the movie. I believe that the Predators were in-fact just a different species [perhaps sub-species through genetic mutation?]. I don't think he made them to be better then the P1 or P2, I believe that a lot of People took it that way then we saw the pics of the P1S chained up and eventually
had his head taken clear off.
. That's my opine at least.

I also believe that they really shouldn't mix the comics with the movies...leave each to their medium.
 
That actually makes a lot of sense. See, I only got my knowledge of predators through the movies, never from comics or video games. Thats why I found it so confusing to really put the pieces together and follow a real story line. I just learned a lot!

Just wanted to say thanks to hockey, i'm baffled by all the comic stuff, i've only ever seen the movies so this thread helps a lot.

The only thing i can't work out is if P1 is a baby pred or whatever, how the hell did he take out dutch's team so easily???

If he was a baby then dutch and his team against the newer berserker preds would have been a short movie!!!

I don't think he was a "baby" predator.

If you look at the movies, you see a similar characteristic to today's military [a basic comparison]. You have basic soldiers, your experienced soldiers, and your elite [special ops units]. The P1 was an experienced soldier, by comparison. P2 was more of a soldier, not too experienced, but enough to know what he's doing. Then you have AVP--these guys were basically at the end of boot-camp and fell over the finish line. Have some knowledge of what to do and how to do it...very little to no experience. The you have Wolf..."The Cleaner"..."The Assassin". He, to me and in my opine, is right before the Elder stage. he's been through his fights, extremely experienced and dangerous...he's a Special Ops. P1S would probably be like P1, but perhaps a little less experienced.

The New Breeds of Preds [BSP, Tracker, and Falconer]. They're like the game "Army of Two". They were most likely in a regular clan, doing the regular clan things. They wanted to do it "their way", so they left. They perhaps started their own clan or just formed an alliance between them. Their comparison really varies from somewhat experienced to very experienced, but I wouldn't categorize them as a Cleaner Level.

How I would rank it [leaving the New Breed out] from top to bottom:

Wolf [Cleaner, very experienced--special ops]
P1 [experienced-ranking soldier--officer]
P2 [somewhat experienced]
AVP [little to no experience, only knowledge]

I couldn't agree more here!

I read all the novels (AVP: Prey was brilliant) and ones like concrete jungle and whatnot, and took my understanding of the Predator race from there.

Like mentioned, P1 & 2 were subtle (despite the acting in P2 lol). The end scene with the lost hunters and the Elder is wicked. They're awesome because they don't have to go out and blow **** up to be cool.

AVP and PS just had to screw with the formula too much IMO- the movie concept is limited I nkow (P hunts humans, that's all) but I don't think they needed to screw with the creature design (wolf was good though). I reckon a predator movie set in the past (WW2, Imperial Japan, Cold war etc) would have been much better. Or in PS have 3 original 'lost hunter' style preds hunting the humans and one 'new style' hunting the lot...

I would have enjoyed PS a lot more if the P1 absolutely slaughtered the new ones, like the dramatic "im putting on my armour" scene implied, and they didn't just wrestle AVP style.

The predators are meant to be trained elite hand to hand warriors, like martial arts type stuff FFS!

Bottom line: Read the AVP: Prey novel. It's awesome. You'll get a great idea of the predator system, and the movies all sort of fit in (except the new one)

Anyway that's my rant. I was disappointed with everything since P1 and P2... Especially creature design bar old mate Wolf. And the P2 Elder is easily the most awesome pred to grace the screens, and as long as no-one doe another movie and ***** with him, will remain that way :)

Do some reading instead of asking the world your questions in this thread. Hell, your answers could be found even on Wikipedia.

The movie AVP even proclaims IN THE MOVIE that the Preds are "juveniles" yet to earn their stripes, and thus they come in the movie with no canons, needing to attain them through tribulation. Did you see the movie? Obviously not or you wouldn't be asking.
Wolf is the Predator in AVP Requiem (which, in case you didn't know, is a movie about a Predator who is called on to clean up the mess started in AVP). Also, Predators are aliens who like to hunt. Just an FYI. :cry:

no need for the sarcasim... Just wanted to understand how people find out the storys to the movies. I guess i dont have enough background in Predology to fully understand them.

Best one to date.
P1 seems to be the crowd favorite, but remember that the first half of the movie was suspense, not knowing what the thing actually was.

Predators has layers of deeper meaning. Each time I see it, I delve a bit deeper into the psyche of human nature.
