Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

I would freakin LOVE a Star Wars theme park!!!!!!! Think of all the cool settings and rides we would get!!!!!

I'm a little worried now. How will this affect garage kit producers. I'm working on releasing the Turbo Laser kit in the next six months. Are we gonna have to use codewords on the forum like "The Mouse" and "Thee big boxy thing with guns from the surface of the Big metal Ball"?
:lol:lol:lol:behave

Disney could make this work. When I normally think Disney, I think of cute and fury, then remember they also did films like TRON and DRAGON SLAYER which was not cute or fury. I hope we get a new live action film(s) and an end to the 3D cartoon stuff that is THE CLONE WARS.

Re: Disney/Lucasfilm

I'm looking forward with great interest to new Star Wars films. I'm glad as well, that George Lucas will be involved, yet not in charge.

I'll start worrying about a "crack down" on fan made things if and when it actually happens. Until then, it's all speculation.

Regarding the fan groups:

From Mary Franklin:

"Subject: Re: Rebel Legion status with new LFL/Disney?
Please pass this on to all the fan groups you know it you can.

Sorry to be brief but I am setting up a big company meeting Q and A at the moment.
The costumed Star Wars fan community and all Star Wars fans are vital to Lucasfilm and Star Wars. Our relationship is so very important.
Please know that we are carrying on business as usual, and you can continue to contact me as you always have. "

Calm, please. :)

That statement doesn't necessitate calm. It simply means that folks don't know until the Q & A session. Maybe afterwards some issues will be resolved and the fangroup relationships will continue as far as costuming goes.

I can pretty much guarantee that props and armour sales will be tolerated to a much lesser degree.

We'll see, pretty soon.

Epispde VII...by Disney...facepalm.

Please let Star Wars rest in peace already.

Can't wait to see them CGI Mickey Mouses head onto Vader.:lol

Re: Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney

at least they will make more films...Lucas was just sitting on the properties and grinding them into the ground.

Nuff said.

You know, it is within the realm of possibility that they know the fan groups are part of what makes the whole thing go and don't want to tamper with it.

People can post things about actual disney characters and there's no denying the force that's been used, however, Snow White, Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty, etc, weren't propped up (no pun intended) by fan groups for years. I think it's two different things to be honest.

The statment may not necessitate calm, but it doesn't mean it won't be business as usual either.

As others have pointed out, i've seen plenty of tron and marvel stuff that hasn't had issues.

I thinking trying to force a change on it is biting the hand the feeds you and is asking for bad press before the movies can be released - something they definitely don't want. Granted, they could still go vindictive as hell, i just don't see it myself.

Agreed. Although there are often many stipulations that go into contracts. Who knows what was in this one.

Disney hasn't really been chasing down Jack Sparrow props and or costumes and a number of other things. I think it's too early to speculate on anything at this point.

I know nothing about the industry like a lot of people here do. But as an outsider I find it hard to believe that this will change much with regards to costuming and the 501st. If Disney do anything to the 501st it will be bad for disney. I see so many Ironman builds here and Jack sparrow builds. As far as I know no one has gotten into trouble here for doing any of those. I could definately see the 501st being a big part of the disney/star wars marriage.

I wonder what this means as far as Ainsworth is concerned. I think Lucas sold SW just to give AA the middle finger. :lol
Seriously though, better buy the accurate Stormtrooper armor now because I don't see unlicensed armor around much longer.

Amazing how so many can have such stong opinions about something they haven't seen yet. Some folks really need to get a grip and stop whinning like babies. :behave

I'm really quite interested to see where they go with new films. It seems pretty obvious that they can't just pick up where ROTJ left off, but what they will do...I just don't know.

I might be jumping the gun here, clearly we are all getting our knickers in a twist and it's bloody big news but do you know what?

There will only ever be 3 star wars films for me. SW, ESB and ROTJ. Original versions.

Everything else is the equivalent of a Macdonalds franchise. It tastes OK, but when you have eaten in the ORIGINAL hamburger joint it pales in comparison or tates a bit plastic or corner-cut.

Ultimately, SW was of it's day. It appeals because of the nostalgic value and wide-eyed optimism of youth. Any new content might be exciting and interesting but can never compare to the original phenomenon.
