Disney buying Lucasfilm (new Star Wars movies on tap)

I just do not see the point.
I mean why?
Is it as case of, 'Well, it's a good price, I've got the cash - why not.' Like me walking past a bakery and seeing a cake I like in the window.
What on earth do Disney hope to gain? If you've got $4 billion odd spare how much more do you need to generate?
Or is it just the prestige?
Do they honestly think they can revitalise SW in the eyes of the old fans with new material, or do they just want to generate new income from new stories that has the SW (much like the majority of c**p merchandise released month after month) logo stamped upon it?
For me, this seems to be the beginning of the end.
Perhaps a few good things will come of this - more archive material from the OT, the preservation of remaining models, costumes and props, but from a viewpoint of furthering the story - why bother.

Re: ...Disney Buys LUCASFILMS??? New Star Wars sequels in 2015???

what's gonna happen to the archives? all those props and models, maybe lucas kept all that for himself or better still disney got all that as well and will set up a permanent exhibition, probably at one of there theme parks.

Re: Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney

Disney hasn't interferred with Pixar or Marvel Studios, I wouldn't bank on them taking creative control away from Kennedy. The current model has worked well for Pixar and Marvel - let them produce the films and create the content, then run them through Disney's massive marketing, home entertainment, and consumer product machines.

As for impacting the value of current props, your guess is as good as mine. I am glad however that LucasFilm will now have the resources to pursue a 3rd trilogy.

I think that it's a matter of growth, even if you're as big and successful company as Disney you can't afford to just rest on laurels, past glories, and risk stagnation. That and they're a publicly traded company which means they have shareholders to keep happy and what makes shareholders happy? More money.

The merger also makes a lot of sense from a financial stand point, until this merger they almost certainly pay a certain amount of royalties or licensing fees and the like in order to have rides like Star Tours, sell Star Wars merchandise, and have things like Star Wars days and their Jedi training show in the parks. By buying out LF they no longer have to pay any royalties or licensing fees which is money saved and all of the profits from the sales of SW merchandise in the parks would go all to Disney.

IMO this is great news. As far as "going down hill" I personally think LFL's handling of the franchise has been pretty poor since Phantom Manace so am pleased that someone else will be taking ownership.

Given I'm a huge Disney park fan as well I'm really looking forward to what these guys will do in the theme parks. IMO if they have any sense they'll cancel their Avatar plans for Animal Kingdom at WDW and concentrate on a Star Wars Land instead. Universal showed the way with Wizarding World of Harry Potter so its time Disney upped the ante in Florida.

I'm happy - May 20th 2015 for Ep VII then!

Cheers

Jez

Disney is very smart. Just a few years ago they were dead as a door nail, and now they own all of these properties, AND "ILM" resources. This is akin to owning all the railroads, utilities, boardwalk & park place with hotels in Monopoly.

Right now y'all should be buying Disney.

:lol:lol:lol:lol

See, it's taken SW somewhere else already. This is HUGE.

Star Wars is now officially owned by Disney. Any future releases will have a Disney logo before the film. Mindboggling, huh?

Let's discuss Kathleen Kennedy, the new boss of Star Wars. Why do you think George chose her? She has been an invaluable producer on many flicks, no doubt, but is she a visionary genius to take the SW Univerese on to the next level? Ot just an astute business woman? What are the implications?

Do You know why disney really bought star wars

I heard that they were going to unfreeze disneys creator Walt disney and they needed vaders suit to kepp him alive.

I know its hardly a big deal, but seeing a star wars movies that doesn't start off with the FOX intro but instead with the magic castle instead will be kind of odd

Personally I'm optimistic what could happen as long as they don't continue where jedi left off with new people playing those characters. I'd rather see years in the future with a new set of characters

And please, don't try to shoehorn C-3P0 and R2 into it

Regarding the fan groups:

From Mary Franklin:

"Subject: Re: Rebel Legion status with new LFL/Disney?
Please pass this on to all the fan groups you know it you can.
###

Sorry to be brief but I am setting up a big company meeting Q and A at the moment.
The costumed Star Wars fan community and all Star Wars fans are vital to Lucasfilm and Star Wars. Our relationship is so very important.
Please know that we are carrying on business as usual, and you can continue to contact me as you always have. "

Calm, please. :)
