Denuo Novo (only) New and existing products

The HBS has become my go-to base to work from. Overall dimensions and proportions are good. Minimal work is needed to make it Rogue One-accurate. More to make it idealized OT, but I enjoy it. The main takeaway, though, is that there is not really much in the way of options for an off-the-rack, sturdy, perfect-for-everyone-with-no-post-processing-required Stormtrooper helmet out there.

I don't think there can be a perfect-for-everyone-with-no-post-processing-required OT Stormtrooper helmet because different people want different things. Some want totally screen accurate (warts and all). Others want idealized. When you get into idealized I'm sure there are different opinions on how idealized it should be. The actual OT helmets were mostly made pretty cheaply and sloppily. Some want that, some don't.

It would be more possible for perfect-for-everyone-with-no-post-processing-required helmets from the more recent films because of how the new helmets were made. The main problem could be the cost for some people.

I am disappointed we haven't gotten truly accurate Sequel Trilogy or Rogue One helmets from a high end manufacturer. The Anovos and Denuo Novo helmets are nice but they aren't made like the original helmets and have some design modifications. I can understand using different materials for cost or durability, but the design changes are frustrating.

I was really looking forward to the Anovos Mimban Stormtrooper. I've built my own enhanced targeting array from scratch, but I would have liked to compare that against something theoretically derived from film assets.

The design changes are frustrating. At the same time, I'm apparently a masochist and like a challenge. Part of it is also for the sake of the community -- tackling the various things that have come out, I can say where they're good, where they're not, what will have to be done to get them to look closer to the original item, and leave it to the individual to decide whether that's worth it to them.

At the same time, I'm curious what it would feel like to encounter something out-of-the-box perfect. No modification needed.

I'll be passing on OT Stormtroopers & Sandtroopers - I'm more than happy with my RS versions. I've also got the MR CE Stormtrooper for an idealised version.

If they do a Shadow Stormtrooper then I may be interested depending on price and how it looks.

I would be interested if the do a Rogue One version and also hope the Mimban version gets released down the line as the pictures looked really good.

I was thinking of buying the TLJ FO Stormtrooper to fair with may Anovos TFA helmet but now leaning towards sticking with my TBS version

Do you have a link for this? I'd love to see it. I have considered converting one of the many TBS Stormtrooper helmets that I have into a Mimban.

Here's what I've got... This is my primary reference, for clarity and detail and resolution:

I've got some other 4K screengrabs from the film to supplement this and a few publicity photos, but this one does a good job. I can make out the "goggle" undercut, the main helmet rubber brow band, and then the two layers of the bottom edge of the add-on piece -- the inner arc with the insets above the helmet lenses, and its own rubber brow band.

From that, I've gotten this, starting from one of the old Hasbro toy Boba Fell helmet front halves, with the bottom edge extended:

I have some more recent pics, but this does the best job of showing what I used as the basis. I scratch-built the oval mounts and the targeting sensor mount for the bottom edge. The marks on the scrap sintra are where the rubber trim needs to get cut at before attaching. But I had no reference from the film or publicity material for the back edge of the thing. Beyond the ovals, I didn't know how this thing might be mounted, how closely, what spacers there might be, etc. So the Anovos prototypes were helpful in that respect:

So that's what I'm working on right now.

Wow! That is too much mud. You can't even see the helmet.
Anovos also planned to have a clean version. You can see a blurry photo of the clean helmet from a presentation they did by searching for "anovos mimban stormtrooper".

I wondered how durable the mud would be. It seems like it could easily flake off and make the helmet look odd.

I would like Denuo Novo to make the Rogue One style helmet and have this as a variant. They could also have variants of various TK helmets shown in The Mandalorian and related series.

Nice work. This makes me want to give this a shot.

I used Fullers Earth powder and acrylic paints on my Sandtrooper armor and then shot it multiple times with a clear coat and that grime is not coming off easily. I would have hoped Anovos would plan to do something similar or better. It could even be a fiberglass resin spattered on it. That definitely wouldn't be coming off. I did that to simulate the look of a weathered pirate ship anchor and it worked beautifully.

The Stormtrooper is now listed on the DN website.

No Sandtrooper yet.

Should the black band flair out at the bottom like that? I don't think any of my existing helmets have that.

Yep. That's accurate to all OT versions. Took me a minute to find a couple good, clear, back-contrasted shots to demonstrate:

Those are ANH, since that's what Anovos was working from.

I looked, but wasn't finding any.

I just checked my helmets and my two EFX stunt helmets have a slight flair to them, but not near what is shown with the DN. Hasbro Black Series doesn't have any flair, which I guess makes sense since they were based on the Rogue One Stormtrooper and they don't seem to have the flair at all.
