DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit Builds

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

Still working on mine. Made a lot of progress over the last couple of days but I'll tell you this is a lot of work to get it to look just right. My setup is going to be as close as possible to the original "movie" blaster. I have been studying pictures on where to scuff, shine, scratch, weather etc., etc. That's what takes the most time but the end result I think will be a close replica. Even studying which way the notches face in the glass eye/scope rings, where the scratches are on the scope bar and so on blah, blah, blah.:)

I think the next time consuming portion will be the mods of the sounds for the different banks on the Plecter Labs Blaster Core, Yup, it's going to have sound. (A shout out to Scottjua for his tips, thanks brother). Here's a couple of random pics:

75% of mods complete ( Sight slider has been reversed (*not shown), removed "butt sight" from slider and blackened, filed lower portion of the hammer so it will hit a bit more flush on the "firing pin", Aluminum Black, Super Blue, Jax, and paints used where appropriate. This is an older pic so some things have been updated for accuracy:

Removal of material to accept 2 watt speaker, slot made instead of sound holes which will be well hidden, channel made to improve/increase sound:

Made my own .973" sticker for mystery disc and blued around it, removal of Denix logo:

Modified wood grips to hold speaker and direct sound, removed bulk of the trigger to make it more accurate to an actual Broomhandle trigger:

Made and applied template and used aluminum Black to simulate on the charging handle: (That was a pain)

Just my little update.

Looks good...love the in-process pics ;)

Definatley in for a plaque. I am also looking for a "nice" Professional stand, acrylic style would be great. The one guy I asked is either too busy or isn't interested. I was looking on the web last night for a while but nothing really caught my eye. The standard pistol ones are...mehhh.

If anyone is interested I found the scope reticles:):

I'm still working on the FH. This one is aluminum that a friend made for me. I'm going to strip it and use alum-black. I haven't liked any other results I've gotten yet using paint.

Looking good so far man! I'm actually going to bury my own Alu flash hider in my backyard for a month or so after I blue it, so that it gets a nice patina and slightly rusted. Also, keep in mind that the real MG81 flash hiders were at one point painted, and the one that the Star Wars guys used was beat up, worn, and had most of its original finish long gone. Look here:

This is, I believe, the best conditioned real flash hider that there is, as far as I know, and it obviously has a layer of black paint overtop the bluing.

9 months after starting this journey, when I first watched Adam Savage build his DL-44, I have completed my Smuggler's Sidearm! I want to thank everyone who helped me along this journey. A special shout out to Master Valon for reaching out to me back in Oct 2013 who saw me desperately posting in the RPF asking where I could get parts. Also to everyone in this thread who have given me advice. I truly could not have done this without you guys!

Nice job man! Kudos on the complete build too, it's a really cool thing to nerd out with, isn't it? ;)

I really had a fun time with this. Question for you or anyone. Currently my FL is only being held on to the barrel by the screw on the bottom. It wiggles a little. Is that the way it should be or should I epoxy it and make it not move? Not sure how FHs work on real guns.

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

If you want it removable. Wrap some tape around the booster barrel to snug it up.

On the mg81. The FH was screwed on using internal threads. There was no bottom thumb screw.

Im sure that it wiggled on the real HERO prop too! It was never straight.

Ok cool. To wiggle or not to wiggle? That is the question. I wonder if this has been addressed anywhere in the RPF before haha

I finally have time to start bluing the parts, but I'm running into an issue. I sanded down the scope, but it seems to have pores no matter how deep I go. When I apply the Super Blue, the pores turn white. Any suggestions?

That's dried bluing. After rinsing. You should try lightly buffing with 0000 steel wool. Lightly. It will improve the color and finish and remove the powder. Repeat the bluing to make darker.

when you are happy. You can use black paste shoe polish to seal and shine.

Let me know how it works out

Mine is not completely done yet. Struggling to get hold of blueing agent for the aluminum flashhider.

aluminum black will work but you have to play with it a bit. CLEAN aluminum. steel wool, degreaser etc. reapply. some great tutorials on u tube.

looking good!

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

It drives me nuts when I am almost ready to finish the wiring and then realize I have to redo parts of it. UGGGGG!!! If the sound card is placed one way the internal rail that the slide, "slides" on, gets in the way and you cannot remove the SD Card. Simple fix is to turn the card 180 degrees but when the internal tolerance of the wiring is tight so it doesn't look like a plate of spaghetti then that means time to re-wire portions.

I'm going to go beat myself up now. This will not affect me giving feedback on a very important piece to accompany this blaster though as I am committed on finishing the entire Blaster within the next couple of days. I am a stickler for perfection and replicating. Although my Blaster is not an "exact" replica of the movie prop it's pretty darn close. I try to weather as closely as possible etc. Heck, I even studied multiple pics to make sure the brass scope eyepiece holders had the notches in the correct position(s). Fun build but when you can be a bit focused it ends up taking that much longer. The end result should be something that I will be happy with though.

Hi (Hei), Pål!
I just got the Birchwood Casey Aluminium Blue sent to Norway from Amazon UK :) This is the one previously recommended in this thread. Some online retailers won't ship this outside their borders for some reason, but here's a link to someone who will: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002JCW2CG

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

Almost finished. I need to modify/weather the scope a bit and secure the 1.3mm recharge port and then its complete. (Yes, it will have sound/sound effects) The stand may be something I am working on;) but it is in no way complete.
