Death Star 2 Port Attack Diorama

Thanks.

That back right light tube location in the tunnel was still bothering me when I got back from vacation. Took one more look and decided to unbolt it and get out the saw again. Glad I did, cause it still was lined up wrong. The last half inch allows the light tube to go all the way down (like it was designed). Finally... ON TO the right side of the tunnel.

Very cool! I thought about doing a small section with A-Wings when Lando orders them to draw off the fighters. Even that seems like a big undertaking. I can't wait to see this finished!

That'd be a cool dio. That was one of the three tunnel spots I chose from originally (I liked all the mass of red piping and split tunnels), with the other being the entrance to the main reactor (with a projected curved reactor room to get the eerie lighting). You could even do it in a larger scale since it is all inner tunnel. Love that spot in the tunnel.

Propo, Sluis -

My main problem has been only 1-2 hours a week to work on it for the past six months, so I only get it done in small sections of piping. Going in slower sections actually gives me time to review things by coming back several times later (it is being built right next to my home office desk, so I study it a lot when not building on it). That's how the last round of corrections got found. Eventually it gets done. Big dios just work that way sometimes. I figured about two to three years to complete it, so it actually is right on track... just a sloooow build. Structural-based dios are my passion, so the patience just comes with it. The hardest part has been keeping dust out of the inner layers.

YOu should create a scrapbook of al of the construction pics and place it next to this beast when its done :thumbsup

My #1 fav is Bob's SS/DS (This build's Big Cousin) but it's a Very Close 2nd!
A Great Build/Stay the Course! Forcefully Yours - Modeleers

I'm thinking a slideshow on one of those small digitial picture frames that will be mounted to one side of the built-in case when it is done.

Thanks for the extra "force" - I need it. Bob's is my fave right now, too. That is an insane painting/drilling job before it is done.

Starting work on the right tunnel. Did a lot of cleanup inside the background layer and fnished painting up/attaching the upper back right wall. Making many of these tunnel parts so they bolt or screw on has been some "fun" to say the least...

Parts are aligning pretty well now that I fixed that right back light tube position.

Been working on the jig for drilling the light tube holes (so not a lot of work on the tunnel). Did dig out one of my Argo MFs to show somebody, so took a few quick pics... :cool

:eekWow! wonderful work! :thumbsup

What have you got planned for the 'end' of the tunnel? (which I guess is at the bottom if you're displaying this vertically?)

..You could simply print out a nice big screen cap, a view from the film looking straight down the tunnel, or better still, what I'd love to see you do is an infinity mirror effect! If it's easier, you could add a short forced persective section to the bottom to give the impression of the tunnel extending on into the distance - that'll make the whole thing a bit talller though. It could take some figuring out, but it would be so cool to look down into your model and see the tunnel reaching out for 'miles'. :)

Awesome!

It is designed to have swappable panels of imagery that will slide into small channels at the bottom (which also gives me a way to close up the hole for transporting it). Thoughts so far include: perspective matte painting and/or a foam-based fireball coming up into the tunnel. Also haven't ruled out strapping a thin LCD to the bottom to add video/sound to it and maybe even use actual movie footage from that point in the tunnel...

Amazing work like how this started out....thought that was a genus way
of getting started!!! The rest is just bonus!!!:lol:thumbsup

Well you've done an extraordinary job, I'm sure whatever you decide it'll look fantastic and I can't wait to see it!

I've got to say, this is easily one of the most unique ideas for a diorama I've ever seen. Very much looking forward to following all of this.
