Deagostini Falcon. Anyone seen this?

your streaks are going the wrong direction, you have some correct on the outside, but all of them should be going from the outside in since that's the bottom

LrdSatyr8 mentioned that in another thread actually,i've come to the conclusion i don't care enough to change it :lol, the way i'm planning on Displaying it you'll never even see the underside

But i'll certainly take a little more notice on the upper half ;)

Got my first two months in hand, called up customer service and they are shipping months 3-12 in one big box for me next week, so I can get caught up.

Thanks to this thread and others like it, I have a pretty good idea of what to do and where to go for info.

All ready ordered some stuff off shapeways (thanks Tony!) - hoping to start this build next.

Good luck. I was told this as well. They will ship them in separate boxes marked 1-12. Mine came spread out over 3 days.

Daz No worries on the direction of the underside streaks, because if you are trying to recreate the 32 inch miniature exactly, they did the same thing on many of their streaks on the underside as you can clearly see in this photo. As they turned this baby over to paint, I think that they got confused which way gravity would go when they turned it back over. LOL

I received shipment 12 yesterday and got really excited to attach all the hull plating to the bottom. About 3 pieces in I realized that I'm missing two plates that come in shipment 11 which I'm still waiting for. At least 11 has been shipped.

As mentioned I got notice the other day that #12 was billing. The next day that #11 was shipping and this morning #12 shipping :thumbsup so it sounds like they are getting caught up.

Got my first order from De Agostini today...:And they sent the old :angry:facepalmWRONG Uk parts!!!

I think the original packages are still the same. You have to wait until a certain order to get your upgraded parts.

I have the sub.And they said before that they will not ship old wrong parts for the sub customers!

I ordered, too, and I'm still waiting for my #1. In the meantime I checked all the newsstands and supermarkets in my town in the last few days and I was a bit shocked: They all had just the wrong UK parts. No one had the upgraded parts. :eek

That is really a scandal.I called the Support and they said, that I will get the new parts next week.BUT...if they send the wrong parts again I should call them again!:facepalm

Hello modelmaker masters and DeAgostini falcon fanatics,
I am from Germany, 38 years old. The falcon project started last week here and I feel like a kid again although I have own kids in the meanwhile ;) I am a big Star Wars fan since I was old enough to see the original trilogy movies and couldn´t resist buying the first issue of this cool thing. Even if I wouldn´t have subscribed it would have been worth buying it because of this nice blue print poster.

I needed two days to decide for the subscription as I had all these bad feeling about this 1200 EUR contract as most of the people had with reading the first posts of all the topics around this. This forum here helped me deciding for it. So thank you all for your engagement and your will to share your experiences with us…

Due to this 100 issue lasting period I will have time planning how to start this project the right way. Unfortunately it will be my first modeling project in that size and I want to do it right as this is one of the biggest dreams of my life so far (Owning a Studio Scale sized Falcon of that detail). I am hoping to avoid the biggest errors with watching existing build logs and not to run asap without using my brain. As you (all UK and US builders) are far ahead with your builds you maybe can correct my plan or support it, that’s why I would like to share it with you:

I want to reach a result which has the quality like the MR Falcon. Especially the paint. That´s why I already decided to repaint it completely after it is finished. Especially the weathering and softer colours are my plan. I already collected these cool HD images of the 5 footer and the 32” SSM to know where I have to go. I own an old MPC/ERTL 1/43 X-Wing since 25, too. This one is still boxed so I will start with this little one to train a bit… If it becomes good it will be displayed together with the falcon later on. Same scale so why not?

Actually my plan is to finish the complete build only when all main hull parts are available. The cockpit and inner hold c/would be started and finished once all parts are available for these which is part of the first 50 issues when I saw this correctly. The inner metal frame c/would be started right from the start. The outer hull parts to be added at a last step. Why doing so?

I fear the following: With removing & marking (with every the issue no.) the hull parts from every issue I could clean them & get them fat free right from the start to collect all parts within a separate sealed box. Greeblies / Shapeway-Updates would be added right from the start not to loose these parts.
I simply fear that I would not be able to get it really fat free & cleaned up for primering once everything is built together and touched again and again every week. I guess adding the hull - with gloves on my hands - should be manageable within a day or two once all parts are available. Directly followed by the primering process … Or is this total bull****?
Do you see a problem in following this workflow? Or do I need to follow the instructione due to overlay situations of some parts which can not be solved with not following the instructions?

Last thing: I really like these shapeway parts as high detail upgrades to the falcon. But I am not sure about the inner elements. I calculated it through and I would have to spend additional 500-700 EUR if I would do it as screen accurate as possible with the parts available today (and internal lighting with fibers). On one hand there is this one chance to do this now as I will defenitly not rework it later on. It will be displayed under an acrylic dome not having the need cleaning it from dust every week.
So wether I will have to display it ‘opened up’ to be able to see the inner details or – as I actually would prefer – display it closed. Actually I don´t see the need to add these extra bucks only knowing that that the details are there… So actually my plan is only to add shapeway updates for the visible parts from outside.
But what about the following idea? Why not building a second inner hold based on these great shapeway items to display it as a separate object next to the falcon within the acrylic dome?

Do you think it would be possible to ‘open’ the falcon again once it was finished to add the updated hold later on if I get rid of this way of display? I think it would be great to have the option to interchange the inner hold section when I want to. Or will there be a final glue to combine up-and downside of the hullparts to achieve one piece of falcon as one of the last steps which would destroy this plan or flexibility?

I am nevertheless very exited for the next years to come finishing this beast together with you all!!!
Happy falconing! :)
