Darth Vaders Tie build

Gunpowder

I was given this as a commission build. I decided to start the model today. Its the Chris Kelley kit. I had previously built the Tie interceptor so i know whats in store with this kit. :eek I have only cut out all of the openings so far. Its made from a very soft resin. The most problematic part is the rear wing/fuselage part. Its very warped which im sure i can sort but its also very flimsy. Guess i will work things out as i go.

Cool!

I remember reading about the Chris Kelly version on here awhile ago. What's it based on again? It's not 100% SS, right?

Hey does anyone know how to get a hold of Chris Kelley? The email address I have for him bounces back :wacko

I did a major overhaul on mine... most notably redoing all the panels and scratchbuilding a new canopy...

The only disappointing part of it for me was that the cockpit pod was just a hair undersized... but I adjusted other things to try and make it pleasing to the eye.

It's an almost studio scale placeholder until SN gets his going for us all ;-)

You indeed did that CK beastie justice Jerry! It looks fantastic!

Gunpowder... if I remember right, the CK X-1 was too wide and the ball was too small. Am I remembering that right Jerry? I recall Jerry and Bob going over that with a fine toothed comb in Jerry's build thread! LOLOLOL It caused quite a stir back then.

However... the bottom line was that regardless of it's differences from the SS beast, Jerry's build turned out TOP NOTCH!! :D

I have got the X-1 itch right now. I will go even further to be quoted as stating the person who gets an accurate SS X-1 released right now will rule the market of current Star Wars studio items. It is a "KEY" item that has been overlooked for too long.

Currently, I know of TWO (possibly three) kit makers that may be releasing that SS beastie in '08. (my PM is OFF so don't waste your time inquiring ;) )

Steven Neisen has been our "SS TIE Guy" for many years now... I am certain he will come through yet again with a KILLER X-1. :)

It has been said that accuracy is only as good as it's identified parts. I say it is the reference used and the builder's enginuity that makes the difference. ;)

Back on topic... this build will definitely be generating interest! I will certainly be reading about it Gunpowder! :D

Very nice! Yes, it was Jerry's build thread that I was referring to....he had to mod it quite a bit and it does look incredible.

I was holding out hope that MR would eventually do a SS X-1....but that ain't gonna happen now! I guess my Code 3 X-1 will have to fill the void for now.

I figured that was the thread. ;)

You are definitely not alone with the MR wait. What a bummer, eh?:unsure

I think the Code 3 is a fantastic piece. I missed out on them.

That Code 3 was the piece that RECASTER 'Jawa' guy (BigJawa/Studio Scale/EndoBuilder/SovereignModels.. or something like that now) attmpted to recast and sell off as his own work! LOLOLOLOL... What arogance that guy still has. LOLOLOLOL I keep remembering that photo Bob put up of the recast Code 3 with the Mr Potato Head Vader stating... "Not a flying toy!" LOLOLOLOLOLOL good times.... good times...

There we go again... sorry to get off topic. Back to this kewl build. :)

Yes Kurt, you're right... it was too wide and the cockpit pod too small.

Most noticeable from a head on angle but in other angles it photographs nicely.

And I give Chris a lot of credit for mastering this, I think maybe though he was using the dimensions of the old MPC kit and scaling it up for his dimensions.
