ATTENTION ALL BRISBANE SUPA NOVA ATTENDEES
The 501st Redback Garrison will not only be out in force all convention long but we'll also be hosting a panel a how to panel at the Imagineers Playground Stage on the Sunday at 4pm on Droids, Vehicles and Props!
I've somehow ended up helping to co-host it so we'd love it if you wanted to come along, I'll be bringing 2 boxes worth of props and droids that I've built for those who want to get hands on
Oh and of course be sure to stop by the Redback's booth for a heap of awesome Photo ops you won't get anywhere else! And make sure if you see me to come say gday

This last weekend I was lucky enough to troop my first ever convention and it was an absolute blast, easily one of the best events I've ever attended and the first time I've attended a con for a full weekend
Over the weekend we raised money for Smart Pups Autism Assistance Dogs and raised a whopping $3651.10! Then on top of that with the totals from a few of the other groups there that came to a grand total to $4561.25 raised over the weekend through voluntary donations, to say we had a great crowd is an understatement. The Redback Garrison truely is amazing and we had a brilliant weekend with much shenanigans of course
When the squad is on point!
The awesome and huge promo display for Rogue One was on display!
Needs more Vader though
Was shoulder to shoulder packed over the entire convention weekend
Managed to "borrow" the helmet that we're selling raffle tickets for to raise money for Smart Pups
When the Scouts work out you have a 6 foot wide cape you know you're in trouble
And yes I know the belt is wonky in this picture, there was a fair bit jerry rigging that happened to get this awesome photo so it likely got bumped haha

While at the convention the Redback Garrison hosted an hour long interactive panel on Droids, Vehicles and Props. I was lucky enough to be able to help host the panel along with some other brilliant Redbacks, although we had the last time slot on the last day by the time we'd finished we'd managed to grow the crowd to double the size. Really was a great opportunity.
Although one of the biggest highlights of the con was before the panel, one of the lead sculptors for Weta Studies was there watching his colleague do his presentation in the time slot before us. Now for those who don't know Weta is who made all the Lord of the Rings Movies so they're amazing effects artists. And he saw me getting the Gatekeeper Droid out to assemble it for our panel and he went full fan boy on it! So much so he loved it and waited for me to assemble it since he get a picture of me holding it! So I'm a little blown away that a professional working on movie like Lord of The Rings and a master sculpture not only knew what the droid was but wanted a photo, words can't express just how excited that made me
One of my Garrison mates snapped a pic while getting back to the change room so at leat we have a photo! I'm the one in the middle obviously
My part of the talk when for about half an hour where I talked about 3D modelling, 3D Printing, working with 3D prints, ect and then of course answering any question the crowd had, it really was throughly enjoyable

Another successful Redback Children's Hospital visit for the books today
Was a great and worthwhile troop as usual and better yet we were able to spread some Redback Christmas cheer through the wards to those who really needed it most
(for the record I barley had any time to suit up so it was rushed and my OVD isn't satisfied with how everything is sitting
)

Last troop for the year and it was a cracker! Great company as always and just bringing the good old fashioned Redback brilliance
They also dragged us into the Santa photo studio for a massive group photo and of course we did our version of the Skywalker Family Christmas Photo

So I received a major upgrade for my R2-D2 project in the mail just the other day, my Aluminium dome finally arrived! It's not even been clean up or painted yet and it already looks amazing, I could not be happier!
Next up is to get the frame sort then I can really get cracking on building this guy!

Toowoomba Library Star Wars Day

On the weekend the Toowoomba City Library hosted a massive Star Wars day so of course the Redbacks attended! It was a huge day with a count of there being 4000 visitors attending (and those were just the ones who came through the main door). The library was also kind enough to make a charitable donation to the Starlight foundation. May have been a ways to travel to get there but it was well worth it to bring some Star Wars joy to Toowoomba but it was well worth it to support our troopers out there since they're still growing out there

First Redback Children's Hospital troop for 2017 was a great success!
The kids and nurses absolutely loved it, this time we also visited the ER wards and Mental Heath wards where the kids and parents alike were very excited with having some visitors

Pink Stumps Day Promotion
Brisbane - Stafford Heights

The Redbacks will be playing a full game of 20/20 cricket this coming Saturday raising money for the Glenn McGrath foundation who help place Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia. So to promote the game we visited the School that we're playing at and brought some Star Wars awesomeness when we crashed their morning whole school assembly where one of our members help have a chat with them and promote the game
We also were able to get a journalist to come down for some photos and info and we've now had the event featured and multiple Newspapers around the Brisbane areas both North and Southside!
