Daredevil Born Again MCU Disney+

I'm not sure what to do. I originally noped out a few episodes in, as it was just so bleak. Everything positive he did was countered by other things way worse.

Then last year the YT channel New Rockstars started a rewatch breakdown series, so I figured that would be a good way to try again.
But since it was THEIR second go-thru, they continuously mentioned MAJOR spoilers for future episodes. "This sets up this character's death at the end of the season" or whatever. WTF. So unnecessary. I pleaded with them in the comments to no avail.

Then they just stopped the rewatch series entirely about 10 episodes in.

So now I'm torn between resuming my catch-up watch (a big hill to climb), or just jumping into S4 blind.... or just skipping altogether, given my original abandonment reasons, and the freaking spoilers I can't un-know.

I would recommend watching it all! It's not a huge commitment, 39 episodes total. There are some crossovers with the other Netflix Marvel shows, but I don't think they're essential to enjoying Daredevil.

Jessica Jones was very much worth watching too, but hoo boy the first season of that was profoundly dark, if DD was too bleak for ya then JJ probably is too.

Luke Cage has its moments but it's fairly weak overall, and Iron Fist is just bad the whole way through. Defenders is the big crossover event that you should also probably skip, though it has a big impact on Daredevil between seasons 2 and 3.

Born again was one of the best comic stories ever, imnsho, ; ) I hope they don't screw it up too badly. Of course it's Disney, so odds are against it being good. They can't ever live up to the comic book, but maybe they'll capture a little of the goodness.

Other than the Karen stuff, most of Born Again was covered in season 3.

Wow! The first 15 min of Ep1 was amazing! So far I'm digging the story and the action... and of course the perfect casting. Looking forward to the rest of the season

A great start, having two episodes to open the new series was great.
I won't give any spoilers, even though this new release schedule that Disney have opted for giving the USA the series a day before everyone else, the same as they did with Agatha All Along is annoying as the internet is rammed with spoilers and I had that classic spoiler title hit me as soon as I opened a new tab in Chrome yesterday.

"That shocking death in episode 1" I hate it when the internet tries to spoil things for people, even a title like that primes you to expect something to happen.

Watched the first two episodes, thought they were really good. It has the feel of a crime drama, in a good way. I like the new cast and the dialog seems natural (combination of the actors and the writing).
I'm glad that they shot in New York as well - I was afraid they might try to use the LED Volume sets like they (over)use for the Disney Star Wars shows, or try to pass off other cities as NYC, but it's definitely New York:

There are some very rough visuals in those opening scenes - CGI smoke and a glaring animated body double weren't a great first impression I don't think. And I did get spoilered on something that had me braced to dislike it... but I ended up mostly loving the execution!

haha it's a pun you see because Foggy got executed.

So that sucked. He's a victim of the show getting retooled after the apparently terrible first version of the show where he (and Karen) just... died off screen before the start. They recycled a lot of the footage from that version so they couldn't undo their absence, but at least they show it happening now (and Karen survives in this version, yay!)

With that in mind, and not to excuse the bad VFX, I actually think that scene was excellent. It being so abrupt and pointless really added to the shock and horror of the moment - there's no grand heroic sacrifice or deeper meaning, sometimes a crazy man with a grudge kills someone you love.

The way it was structured, with Matt hearing Karen struggle to keep Foggy alive while his breathing and heartbeat gets weaker and weaker, any time DD stops for a moment and loses focus Bullseye kills another bystander, it was so deeply upsetting.

And then Foggy finally dies and DD breaks. The way he so casually throws Bullseye off the roof was devastating - it took so much strength not to give in and kill Kingpin at the end of S3, and here we are, technically the very next episode even if it has been 5+ years IRL, and Matt fails himself immediately. Heartbreaking.

I'm surprised there's no comments yet about the 3rd episode. I thought it was great. They're really doing the crime drama well, even within the universe of costumed superheroes. It's interesting to compare this to She-Hulk, which I enjoyed for the most part, but they leaned into to silliness of superpowered people on trial. It's kind of hard to imagine both of these shows and characters existing in the same reality. Daredevil works best as a gritty crime drama, which doesn't really fit with the tone of rest of the MCU either.

I'll also say that I like how the writers are setting up Matt's eventual return to being Daredevil. The events of these early episodes are laying the groundwork well for his character's motivations, which I appreciate.

A shame that the White Tiger had to go. Fisk clearly revealing his true colours with that final shot of episode 3.
I thought it was a nice touch to have the sound of the tree frog over the credits.

I think they did what they did with the White Tiger story line because the actor passed away.

I didn't know the actor passed away. Apparently, he was dealing with the pain of his cancer while filming his role. Very sad. It makes the episode even more poignant.

Okay, I've got a question. I've been going back and watching the original 3 seasons. This is my first rewatch of them, but there is something I don't understand. What happened between season 2 and season 3? Season two ends with Electra dead and he finally tells Karen "I am Daredevil" and it ends. Then Season three starts up with Matt supposedly dead, they're saying a building collapsed on top of him. WTF happened? Did I miss an episode or what? I don't remember S2 ending with a building falling on him. Am I crazy? What happened? And why doesn't he still have the suit? I'm only on Episode 3 of the third season, does it go back and tell what happened?.....Or, did The Defenders happen between season one and two? I'm lost. My memory is not what it used to be.
