Now it's time for a segment i call...Cause and Effect

Cause:
The OT was the greatest Trilogy of all time
Effect: Fans continue to love it to this day and continues to be a major reason why most of us are even on the RPF.

Cause:The ST was the worst Star Wars Trilogy ever.
Effect:Fans were left empty but hungry for The Mandalorian to erase their memories

Cause:Season 1 of The Mandalorian left fans hopeful for the future
Effect:Season 2 was created to heal the wounds of the ST

Cause:Fans get the Luke they thought they'd be getting in the ST
Effect:Mando and Grogu get displaced and made irrelevant

Cause:Grogu this and Grogu that
Effect:Fans aren't buying it anymore

Cause:Season 3 of Mandalorian sucked
Effect:Disney doubles down and announces a movie for Mando and Grogu and yet another Rey Trilogy

Cause:Disney tries to shove crap down the fans throats, hoping to buy themselves time to recover from all their losses.
Effect: The Acolyte is born and dies in epic fashion.

Cause:Disney will never change
Effect:The OT continues to be the greatest Trilogy of all time.

Now obviously, i left a lot of gaps...but you get the picture...lol
Here’s the rub though…

YOU say “The ST was the worst Star Wars trilogy ever” as if that is a fact but it isn’t. It’s an opinion.

For some people, yes, it’s the worst. For some it’s the best and their favorite. For others they don’t have a favorite SW trilogy and/or they like all the SW movies equally.

I think what makes most of us upset or defensive is when people repeatedly give opinions but present them as facts because the opinion given isn’t our perspective.

I have a confession: I am not a true SW fan. I don't have every figure from every series, I don't cosplay, I don't paint my car like an X-wing, I don't have even one poster.

I like elements of the story, but not everything about it. However...

I was an original audience member, I do have a few models, a couple of lightsabers, several figures, and the original RPG, but I am not a dedicated fan.

That said, I can say this: the sequel trilogy WAS the worst trilogy.

Yet those of you who love the ST or the other Disney material are equally guilty of claiming we are horrible people as fact, not opinion. You claim we don't like new things, or as sexist/ racist/ homophonic, or entitled white men as fact. Disney, and the actors who work for them make the very same statements and claim them all as facts, when the evidence proves otherwise.

Of course statements like the ST sucked is an opinion. The "I think" part of the phrase is implied. You guys get so worked up over semantics that it really begs the question as to what your real beef is with other people's opinions. If you know what we are saying is an opinion, acknowledge as much by constantly correcting us over it, what difference does it honestly make to you how we phrase it? You don't get to dictate other people's language.

It's a petty, immature, and frankly bizarre hangup that shouldn't be ours to "fix." You either suck it up and realize the criticism isn't labeled at you and move on with your life, or just keep digging in as if your position is going to sway the way any of us think. Here's a clue. It won't.

You guys tell us constantly that if we don't like it, don't watch it. Well, that works both ways. You can equally ignore a trash talking thread if you don't like it.

So this is WAY off topic, but man! I LIKE that episode! I rather enjoy some of the cheesie episodes most ST fans hate. Space hippies, Abraham Lincoln, Wyatt Earp, flying jelly bat things, even 1930s gangsters. I love these. So maybe I’m not normal but does that make me any less of a Star Trek fan? Hell, I own a full sized captain’s chair that sits in the middle of my tv room!
My point is you can’t discount me as a fan because I love most of the less popular of the episodes.

“Who knows? Maybe someday they’ll want a piece of OUR action!”
LOL
I agree with you 100% Funky! Those are all awesome episodes.

...and here is why:

Every story has some kind of point.

If the point was to create the next great villain KYLO-REY, okay I guess.

If the point was to kill a Mary Sue, then it is one of the greatest productions in history!

Otherwise, um, no.

The foundation of Star Wars is in media res. That is: in the middle of the action...eventually explaining the motivations.

The first trilogy was a fight for freedom.

The prequels were to set up context for the first trilogy. Yes, this was largely unnecessary.

The ST? Good question. There is more story to be told, but this was not an exercise in good storytelling. We know this. They were still trying to create a story in post-production of the third film.

How can this be good?

In contrast: there have been several great films with a thumbnail sketch of a script. One western was called The Missouri Breaks. That film had half a script and was missing an ending.

Because the story had structure, there were only two likely resolutions and the film was completed by the talent assembled. It turned out to be a well loved western because stayed true to its theme.

The ST is thus far just filler for an even better trilogy, that is, if anyone can recover from the missteps and wasted opportunities of these intervening films.

Every story needs a point, a point of attack, a beginning, a middle and an end.

Now the ST needs an entire trilogy to justify its existence.

Well I don’t do or say any of those things you say people who like all Star Wars (including Disney), say or do and I don’t treat people who dislike Disney the way you describe (I challenge you to find record of me saying or doing what you’ve said I do) but if it makes you feel better to say that about me then you do you I guess.

I’m sorry I don’t meet your standards of deserving respect. I, personally, try to treat people better but again, you do you.

Where did I ever say you don't deserve respect? I meant "you" in the general sense.

Ultimately it shouldn't matter what I think or any of us "haters" think. Why would it?

You quoted me, then said things that I don’t do implying that I do via quoting me. Seems disrespectful to me and toward me but punching down isn’t my thing.

You’re not wrong. At all.

But the ST is the worst. ;)

Of course this is my opinion. I was trying to be humorous as well, and if you knew me, you'd know this and you'd also know that i'm not attacking anyone on here personally. You're defensive because you simply don't agree with it. I've NEVER said my opinion has to be yours...but i can state my opinion and you can as well. You said .."you" then you try to speak for "us" whoever "us" is, then claim being disrespected when someone else challenges you, but it was ok to accuse me of stating my opinion as fact, when it was clearly just my opinion. Honestly, Psab was 100% right and by you crying foul because someone else has a different opinion makes you seem like some victim and you just aren't. Again...i attack content...you take it personally. Disney attacks fans for attacking content, Fans attack Disney for attacking fans. Why do fans have to war with each other? You tell me. Because we disagree? Please

You might want to look in the mirror...you literally just did this to me by falsly accusing me. Just tell me you don't agree...or why you think i'm wrong. I can take it. But by accusing me of stating what i said as fact, paints me to be some pompous jerk who has no room for anyone else's opinions and that is YOU being disrespectful. Throwing stones from glass houses has never worked well.

I quoted you because I was talking to you directly. You stated something that is an opinion as a fact and didn’t explicitly give intention that it was an opinion or even your opinion. My response was to say that when you (actually you and not imperial you) say an opinion as a fact it can make people who have a different experience feel upset or defensive. I stand behind what I said because I didn’t give my opinion or state my opinion as a fact. (I said it can, not that is always does)

I’m not defensive because I don’t agree with your opinion, I’m defensive because you stated an opinion as a fact and I don’t agree with that- regardless of what the opinion is. You could say “Blade Runner is pile of stinking garbage and anyone who likes it is trash” and my reaction would be the same. If you said “In my opinion, Blade Runner is…” and I would have a different reaction. Intention matters online and in text, it’s impossible to detect meaning through writing. You have to give inference or different readers may have different experiences based on what you wrote.

On the other, if someone quotes me and then say that I call people who dislike Disney Star Wars are racists, or misogynist, or sextist, and I don’t and I never have- from my perspective it makes me feel disrespected because that is a lie about me and I will not tolerate anyone treating me that way. I know that many people have said those things about SW fans but I never have and I never would and I have every right to call him out on it. I didn’t quote you and then say untrue lies about you. If you can’t see that then bless your heart and keep on keeping on.
